Comments: This was the first race I've ever done where someone decided to "encourage" me. At about mile 2 this guy caught up with me and we talked a bit and I said some day I hoped for a 30 minute 5k and he said "let's go for it!" so we picked up the pace a little and tried to make it. He pretty much kept yelling at me til the end, saying stuff like "come on, pick it up!" and "you can breath when we're done!", etc. Right at the end he had more sprint left in him than I had and he finished ten seconds in front of me. Maybe it was the wind drag created by my bunny ears that slowed me down a bit. Ha! ;) It was an interesting experience having someone coach me like that. Unfortunately, he distracted me from getting my splits, but I can guarrantee that my last mile split was the fastest I've ever run it. What would you do differently?: Be 20 seconds faster. Post race
Warm down: Stared longingly at the Krispy Kremes then had some grapes and some water. Found my race "coach" and told him "good race". Chatted with a few people that I'm starting to recognize from previous races. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was a little warmer out than I'd have preferred and I started to feel overheated. If it was cooler out I might have been able to shave off that 20 seconds. Last updated: 2006-07-26 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 am, had two peices of toast with jelly and 16 oz of water. Started making my Tortoise and Hare themed hat. Messed around on the internet until my Dad picked me up to go to the race.
Walked around talking to people. Met an ex-special forces guy who told me all about "hashing" and the Hash House Harriers of Space Coast Florida who's goals are:
To promote physical fitness among our members
To get rid of weekend hangovers
To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel
You gotta love that! Definitely going to look into that club. Hashing sounds cool!
This man was also wearing a sign on his back that said, "If you love freedom thank a vet. My son is in Iraq fighting for YOU!" I gave him a big hug and thanked him and his son. It was nice to be able to thank a vet on Veteran's Day.
