Run
Comments: I can safely say that I actually enjoyed this run. I followed my 5 min run/ 1 min walk, which was the same interval as my running buddy. She just wasn't feeling it today, so I pretty much talked to her the whole way. We got passed by all of the zippy people, but it was better than a swim start!! At least I didn't get kicked in the face!!! I made sure to keep my shoulders relaxed and to be aware of my body position. I thanked every volunteer that I could since they were out in the windy, damp cold, too. Along the route, we saw some women playing "rhythmic tamborines" and there was one gentleman playing a bagpipe. SEE? I had time to enjoy what was going on around me!! SWEET! Our final turn was onto Fayetteville Street, which up until earlier this year had been one of those streets-turned-mall things. The city did some reversal surgery and *poof* it's a street again. The nice thing was that the long slow climb that got us away from the start was a nice slow downhill to the finish. I probably didn't push myself enough along the course because I still had alot of reserve left, so I stretched out a little and just ran. It felt good, even if it was just a couple hundred feet. What would you do differently?: For this, my first actual 5k road race, I don't think I would do anything differently. I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish and did it in PR time ... so I pretty much think I rock at this moment! Post race
Warm down: NCTriNewbie met me at the finish. I grabbed a banana because it sounded REALLY good! The 10k started one hour after the 5k, so we had a few minutes to get her ready for her race. I'll let her do her own RR! :) I just kicked back while she was running. Talked to some folks. Hydrated. Checked my numbers. Double checked the numbers. Text messaged my friends ... got some awesome congrats from some awesome athletes. Waited for Teri. What limited your ability to perform faster: The extra weight I'm carrying around. Event comments: I didn't run into some of the problems that NCTriNewbie did, so I'm trying to evaluate this race strictly on my own experience. Last updated: 2006-11-11 12:00 AM

NCTriNewbie, her son and I had a nice breakfast at the Farmers' Market restaurant. It was still cold, windy and rainy. I can't speak for her, but I seriously thought about a DNS for today;however, dealing with you folks (MICHELLE) was less appealing than the DNS. ;)
I was pre-registered, so I picked up my race packet and number ... and chip. I ran into several people from my running group, so I didn't have to run alone, which cheered me up greatly. The rest of the event warmup consisted of trying to stay out of the wind and cold until the race started. There was shivering and jumping up and down at the start ... if that counts as a warmup.
