Does anyone have a recommendation for a good/reliable/safe jogging stroller? Also, at what age is the child ready for a jogging stroller? Any help would be appreciated! My wife has plans of returning back to school and I would love to maximize this time and work out as to not interfere with our family time.

i'm your girl! i have been through 4 strollers, both single and double. if you are looking for a single, i would HIGHLY recommend:

1. DREAMER DESIGN REBOUND - awesome stroller for the price. i've put hundreds of miles on mine. it didn't track straight when i first got it, but that was easily fixed and in a year i haven't had to readjust the tracking.

2. BOB IRONMAN - i have the double, not the single, but i 'test drove' the single. the price is the only thing that kept me from getting that one. they are BOMBPROOF.

when shopping for strollers, remember that jogging strollers are like SUVs. most SUVs out there look sporty, but would get bottomed out if you actually tried taking them down a jeep road. same for jogging strollers. many are NOT good for running. i posted a long thread about strollers a while back. i'll try and find a link for you.

oh, and you can get a bike computer, get an extra long sensor cable, and log your miles (after you calibrate the wheel size, of course.

age - fi was under 6 months old when i started running with her. just like for car seats, you can get infant inserts that help support their head and neck. some come with adaptors so that you can mount the infant car seat (aka the baby bucket) in the stroller.

and congrats!

Thanks for the input...i'll definitely put these on the top of my list. Ava (my daughter) is now 6 months old, so it seems going out with a jogger at this age wouldn't be a problem.

I've heard awesome things about the BOB and like it was already mentioned - if $$$ was no object, that would have been my 1st choice.

I currently have a jogging stroller where the front wheel is fixed. I can't stand that! It makes running and navigating curves and turns a lot more difficult - so personally, I'm going to look for a swivel front wheel the next time I get one.

Good luck.

My wife and I have the Bob Ironman. You can't go wrong with this one and well worth the money. We bought ours new, but I have seen them on e-bay for less since people's kids out grow them and they no longer need them.

I purchased a Baby Jogger from performancebike.com. Watch the discounts off the price and the shipping.

My wife and I have only used it a couple of time with our neighbor’s kids. We have a little girl due March 23rd, so we will be putting it to good use after that. Our friend is a serious running and she has one. She loves her. She has put some serious miles on hers.

Somebody told me I won't be able to jog with my future daughter until she 1 to 1.5 years old. Is this true?

Also, on the topic of strollers, we saw a Bugaboo Cameleon which is like an all-purpose stroller for children from 0 to 4 years old. This one will run you about a grand, so I wonder if the Bob Ironman is really so expensive. Is it because to B.I. stroller is really a jogging specific stroller not appropriate for general use?

WHAT? that's crazy. a) you can get an adapter to put in the baby car seat, so they should be able to go it any age, and b) here's what BOB says:

What is the age recommendation for your stroller?

Your child should be at least 6-8 weeks old before riding in your BOB stroller. Please note that babies incapable of holding their head up must have additional head and neck support to ride safely and comfortably. Supporting an infant's head properly will also help him/her sleep more soundly.

With the addition of the optional Infant Car Seat Adapter, newborns can safely ride in the stroller. This accessory will allow parents to use their Infant car Seats with single seat BOB Strollers, and will work with the best selling Infant Car Seat models available.

For jogging or off-road strolling, children should be at least 6 - 8 months old.

Consult with your pediatrician regarding the suitability of stroller use with your child.

oh, and bobs are on sale at joggingstroller.com right now:

Opus, as a fellow canadian,I bought the double stroller from Mountain Equipment Coop that can be used for running and cycling. They also have a single one. Its much cheaper than other models. I absolutely love it! I started running with my 2 daughters when the oldest was 3 and the youngest was about 8 months old and it was fine. For cycling, you might want to wait until she's one. Although I used it this summer and my youngest was 9 month old.
