closeout sale for 2006.... sound like a good deal? I hope so. 50cm too, right up my alley.

If it looks good, I will be bringing my veteran road racer friend back with me to confirm it's a good deal. He says sometimes the shops switch out the components and put cheaper one's on and the buyer doesn't know? Do the shops really do that?

Oh well... wish me luck... I just might have my first serious road bike ever!!

Here I come 1/2 Ironman 2007!!!!

Treks rock.  I have a 2000 Trek 2300.  I love it.  It's 6 years old now and I still love it.  The only thing I would trade it in for is a Madone, but I don't think I'll be affording one of those any time soon.

I've not heard of shops switching out parts, but if your friend is worried then make sure they didn't, the 2100 should have shimano 105 front derailler and ultegra rear.  If he is a veteran road racer then he should know if it's a good deal or not.  I haven't been in the road bike market for so long I don't know if that's a good price for that bike or not.

I own a 2005 Trek 2100 and I dig it.  It's RED and I like it.  Looks like it might be a good deal.  I'd ask the shop and see if it comes with any sweet service offers like lifetime tune-ups, etc.

I wouldn't think that a decent bike shop would swap out the components on the sly, but it should be pretty easy to spot whether or not they have.  Most of the components are marked with what "level" they are, so just check the things you want to check.  From looking at the Trek website, it looks like the 2006 componentry is the same as mine - a mix of 105 and Ultegra.

It should be a bike that will last you a while.  Have fun with your HIM!

I also love my red 05 2100. Great, great bike. I am replacing the SRAM 12/26 rear cassette with an Ultegra 11/23 (if it ever arrives ... ordered online b/c local bike shop was out).

I have an 04 2200 WSD. It's a good bike. Enjoy.

I am looking to possibly getting a new bike in the near future though. The only thing that I'd want to upgrade to would be a custom build since any stock bike won't be that much better than what I have. So I'm looking at a steal bike from a local builder or maybe a Guru.
