Prolotherapy helping with achilles tendonitis ...

I'm just sharing my experience here ... I've had achilles tendonitis for 15 years. Started when I was teaching aerobics back in Oz, and always made worse for running. I've done acupuncture, chiro, physical therapy, orthotics and pretty much anything else you can imagine. I even had a "bilateral gastroc slide" where they cut both gastrocs away from the tendon and casted both feet for 6 weeks so they would heal longer. 2 years pain-free running but then it came back in the right leg.

Physical therapy helps - some ultrasound and pummelling the cr** out of my calf muscles. But recently my podiatrist has been doing prolotherapy also, and all of a sudden, I'm pain free.

Prolotherapy is injections of various substances into the joint to create an inflammatory response (counter-intuitive I know). But that promotes healing. To be honest my understanding of it is limited but with the line-up of proposed therapies she had for me including extra-corporeal shock therapy and surgically debriding the tendon, this seemed fairly non-invasive. I know alot of people struggle with achilles tendonitis and it's not to say that addressing biomechanics etc isn't important. But here's another treatment option to add to the list.
