Just an FYI, PBN Team member David Glover just posted his Ironman Lake Placid Race Report on our forum. He includes a solid amount of detail which you may find helpful. Although his time was slower than projected, he still finished in 9:49 and nearly cracked the top 30 o'all.

As this was a little slower than David had hoped, he will be at the start line for the full IM distance Vineman in 2 weeks!

And what is scary is that this report from an experienced IM triathlete does not scare me off, it only makes me want to take the challenge even more. Yes, I have completely lost my mind.

Great report and thanks for sharing!!!

Wow, what an experience. It's amazing what those little yellow bracelets can do to light a fire under our butts!!!!

Congrats on the finish, David. What an inspirational story. Best of luck at Vineman!!

Wowie Zowie! That was downright heroic. I loved his "They can pull me outta the race, but I ain't quitting" attitude. Very inspirational!

On top of it all, did I also mention that Dave is a cancer survivor:

Cancer Survivor, Ironman Champion

It's a story from last yr's Blue Devil IM.

Why is it when I read these stories do I find myself frightened at what these people do to their bodies. Yet at the same time I feel the need to do the same...

So after reading the second one, wow, I've got a hell of a lot of respect for this guy. But I have to ask, does he just puke a lot? Or does everyone in IM races just yak their way through it? Or are these just two races where he happened to puke? :-(

Hi Kim,

Regarding your question on getting sick, I tend to get sick quite a bit when racing (definitely more than most). These two races were particularly bad. :-(
For the most part, I race with what I train with so I think's a function of anything new that I'm not used to (e.g. chocolate-flavored GU), eating too acidic, high fiber or spicy foods the day or two before and probably just the stress of racing for an extended period at a effort level harder than at which I normally train.

Cheers,
David

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking "Gosh, if it requires that much puking, I'm crossing it off my lifetime fantasy goal page." I'm not a big fan of puking (uh, yeah Kim, and who is?). Well, anyhow, it was certainly a couple of heroic efforts. Way to go!
