Okay, I know I'm only supposed to wear my running shoes running, but... I can't afford bike specific shoes right now... and I'd like to ride my bike to the trail that I run on without having to lug around my other shoes... is this going to hurt my new, precious running shoes?

If you have cage pedals, yes...it will wear down the front toe cap. Buy a pair of cheaper running shoes, and put your good ones in a backpack. I wore mine for a spinning class, and after 5 or 6 hours, I noticed significant wear on the front.

I second John's notions. You don't need anything special on the bike, but you DO need special shoes on the run (ie ones that aren't worn unevenly). Preserve your knee, ankle, hip joints and save your running shoes for the run.

I know you must have old junker shoes out there!! :-)

If your looking for reasonable priced bike shoes, try www.sierratradingpost.com   I bought a pair for 23.00 originally 80.00.  Granted they may not be top of the line, but their probably better than cheap sneakers.

i got my new balance from http://www.rei-outlet.com.if you live near an rei, they will ship them to the store for free, and if the shoes don't fit or work for some reason, you can return them right there and avoid having to pay return shipping costs.
