Total Time = 45m 3s

Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:11 AM. Woke the kids up a little later, got everyone dressed and out the door by 6:45 AM. Before I walked out I had 1/2 a cliff bar, ate the rest of a cliff bar and 4 donut gems on the way. I think I am going to stop eating before running races, unless it is at least 2 hours prior.

Traffic was awful pulling into the area. "Down town" Miamisburg is really a bit of an oxmoron. It sort of reminds me of Mayberry RFD, only not quite as modern.
Event warmup:

Warmup consisted of jogging from the car to the porta-johns, and trying to get out of those in time for the start of the race.

Comments:

I had just come out of the porta-johns, and headed toward the start. I never heard the start... too much noise and such.

Once I hit the timing mat, I started my watch and began my weaving in and out of the walkers and slower runners. I swear these people who are walkers that start up front....well I am not sure what should be done with them.

I admit I like to start back a little, that way I am less likely to get sucked into a fast start. I nearly always feel great, head out at some pace that I think is good, only to pass the mile mark in 8:XX and think dang I did it again.

I was wanting to break 45:00 for the 5 miles, I had hoped to make 44:00 or even 42:00 until I had not run for the last 3 weeks.

I started out slow, keeping the pace and not really working that hard. The most work was finding a clear path. Felt great at mile one, about the pace I wanted, maybe a little slow... but not too bad.

Mile 1-2 kept the pace going, kept looking for McFuzz, hoping that I would catch him. I was not trying to go too fast, but trying to get negative splits for the race. Hit the drink station and mile 2. Cool a negative split.

Miles 2-3-4. Not really sure what happened here. I still felt pretty good, not going too hard. Still not sure how I missed the 3 mile marker. Still felt pretty good, but I was starting to get tired. I could tell at this point a 5 mile race is different than a 5K. I still felt in control and was still passing a lot of people.

Mile 5 - Well I hit mile marker 4 and I could tell my stomic was starting to complain. Nothing too bad, but a little twitch. As I kept going I could tell I needed to settle my stomic. I walked a minute and felt better. Started off again, kept going and finally threw up about mile 4.5. Ran the last 1/2 mile and finished. I had a lot of people pass me here.
What would you do differently?:

Just push and if I throw up, not worry about it.

Maybe train a little more in the previous 3 weeks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and got some water, cookies, and look for my kids.

They had been there for the 1 mile fun run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training for the last 30 days.

Event comments:

The post race stuff was pretty lame this time.

They had cookies, but ran out of bananas very early on. Didn't have much else. I was surprised they didn't do any better.
