Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had coffee and oatmeal. On the drive in, I had a power bar and water.
Event warmup:

Jogging back and forth from the car to the vendors as I found crap to buy! (There was no place to check your items while you were racing.)

Comments:

LOTS of women at this event! The race started and it took forever to get to the starting line, and even then, people still weren't running. Took almost 3 miles for it to shake out and get a little space. I was all worried that it was a slow pace, but my watch said 9:18 at the first mile, so we were ok. My goal was to run the whole thing in 93 mintues. That would put me at a 9.5 min mile pace. Since I wasn't really training for this, I thought it would be a challenge to maintain that. I hit the 5 mile mark right at 46 min, which put me around a 9:20 pace. I was cool with that. Eventhough the last 3 miles about killed me, I must have managed to keep trucking along at this pace, as I averaged a 9:18 pace for the entire race. I was happy with this.
What would you do differently?:

It was soooo cold before the race. I KNEW that once I started running, I would heat up and be over dressed, but just couldn't convince myself of that. So..I was a little overdressed. Not too bad, but would rather have been in shorts. Next running race I do I am going to go to Goodwill and get some cheap sweats, and just take them off and put them in the trash right before race time.
Post race
Warm down:

Made my way straight to the catered breakfast table (of course!) and got me a small chocolate muffin, banana, mixed fresh fruit and a coffee. (I later went back for a small pastry. Shhhhhhh!) I met up with a friend of mine and her co-workers, so we had a nice post-race chat. I won a $25 Starbucks Gift Card!! Wooo Hooo!! Will probably re-gift it to someone, though.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having run any further than 7 miles in 11 months!!! If I had actually trained for it, I might have done better, but I am happy with my time, and would rather do a long endurance run, than a fast 5k.

Event comments:

This was a great race! They had your name on the race bib, and a cool finisher's medal. They also gave out performance t-shirts, however my size was already gone, so they will be sending me mine. I bought an Iron Girl visor, and a cool, girly triathlon t-shirt.

Good job! Especially for not running that far in a long long time.

I know what you mean about the cold. It was 37 degrees this morning. I had thought about riding my bike out that way, but due to temperatures... I rode this afternoon!

Did you bump into any of the AZ Tri Club peeps?

Excellent run!!  To reel off a 9:17 pace is rather impressive.
