Pre-race routine:

Light breakfast, load up car.
Event warmup:

Not much at all. Still trying to figure out exactly how to "warm up" without exhausting myself.
Run
  • 49m
  • 4 miles
  • 12m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

For me this was a good run. I did the first mile in 10 minutes, then obviously slowed down after that. Had to walk the hilly section. Once I start walking, that's it - I have to keep walking after that.
What would you do differently?:

Try to run the whole way and not walk.
Transition 1
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

I was tired and felt like puking after the run so I probably intentionally fiddled around with my shoes to get some rest.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 10.8 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't check my watch for T1 split or bike split. I was in the fat tire division so I rode my mountain bike. Clipless pedals were great - I am glad I got some. Started out feeling pretty good but then slowed down. Typical. For the last two months or more I've been mainly running and had not done a ride. This felt like a good ride taking that into consideration.
What would you do differently?:

Pacing, pacing, pacing.
Transition 2

Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The fact that I weigh 225. I probably overdressed. It was so warm I could have worn my bike jersey and cycling shorts.

Event comments:

This was an enjoyable race. Well organized, fun.

Nice job Mike!  Will you be doing the other races in the series?

I agree, a few of those hills on the run are tough!

Thanks. I only signed up for this first one; I'm not sure yet if I'll do the other two. I am definitely looking at doing the summer duathlon series that's put on by this same group, racingunderground.com.

Way to get out and do it!  Never run in Cherry Creek, only ridden, I bet some of those climbs could be a kick in the seat of the pants.

Great job.  I'm finding that the only way to get better is to get out there and do it.  I sign up for the races in order to keep my training going.

Glad you made it!

Hey nice race Mike.  I've always thought that if I felt like puking after a run, I really gave it all I had. Not that wanting to puke is all that enjoyable   Anyway, sounds like you put in a great effort.  Hope to see you at the next one!

Hey... way to go - no rides... race anyway... THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!

Me too. Just keep at it, that's the key... next time, look for the old guy in the Pabst Blue Ribbon hat... say hello!

Outstanding race

You definitely passed the "Puke Test" for the run. (It definitely means that you gave it your all)

I agree that figuring out how to race in the cold is tough. It took me a while to figure it out and I really suffered in a few races.

I hope you do more races in this series; They will surely be at least as fun as this.

Good On Ya
