DCB Adventures

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 28m 20s
Overall Rank = 111/219
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 12/35
Pre-race routine:

Labrada meal replacement shake in the morning, coffee, lots o' water
Event warmup:

Stretch as much as possible in the long line to start the serpintine swim.
Swim
  • 08m 6s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Just an OK swim. I should have done much better. The time has the run to T1 lumped in so I was only in the water around 7:30 with a 30 second run on slippery concrete, grass, and asphalt.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a touch harder and start further up; I passed 4 people in the water and was moving up on another.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Great T1. Probably the fastest I've gone through T1.
What would you do differently?:

Use the restroom prior to the swim;).
Bike
  • 41m 57s
  • 14 miles
  • 20.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Slower ride than I expected. I started out kind of slow and was just feeling out the course. On The second of two laps I passed a Litespeed Blade. I was really happy about that:).
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the first lap.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Great T2 for me. Again this was very quick and today I was not hindered by a knee brace to put on.
What would you do differently?:

Fix the rear skewer so the rear wheel doesn't fall off when racking my bike!
Run
  • 34m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I got a bad cramp in the right calf about 100 yards out and had to stop and stretch for two minutes. The inclines were long and shallow while the declines were short and steep. My knees were not happy.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what I'd can do about earning a cramp at that point. I had a lot of fluids on the bike and I brought a bottle of Gatoraide and a Gu pack.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of stretching of the legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The steep downhills killed my knees.

Event comments:

DCB Adventures is very polished and had all their ducks in a row for this race.

Way to get out there and to finish after the cramp, that has got to affect the psyche.  Sounds like a fun race.

Congratulations on a good race.  Those transition times can make or break a race and it sounds like you aced those.  Way to go.

Great job buddy!  I was so happy that I was able to catch you and cheer you on as you started and finished the run.  (Since you were flying solo! Always nice to have SOMEONE cheering for you!)  Did you like how I mounted my bike too soon? Haha!  What a dork!  I have a great pic of me doing that, the chick trying to stop me, and you in the bacground thinking "stupid woman!" haha!  I'll put in my album tomorrow.  Again...great job!!!!

Nice job! Way to fight through the cold wet weather and leg cramps to finish under 1:30.
