I am a newer swimmer and finally have built my swim workout to over 1500 meters. Towards the end of my 1500-2500 meter workouts, I get cramps on the bottom of my feet?? I have stop my swim session, because I cant get them to stop...really sucks when I feel like I can keep swimming.

I rarely ever get musle cramps. I feel I am usually hydrated.

Anyone else experience this? If so, what has worked to eliminate this issue?

Very common, I get them as well.  Think it's a combination of pointing the toes and pushing off the wall.

I get some pretty severe cramps in my feet too and you are right ... it sucks.  I've been told to eat a banana and make sure I'm hydrated before the workout but that hasn't made a difference so far.  Another suggestion given to me was to use a resistance band to pull against the ball, instep, and heel of the foot ... flexing each area prior to getting in the pool.  I'm going to try this on my next swim and I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

Almost daily I get a foot cramp. Swim through it or just stop and step on the bottom of the pool and it will go away.

I get them in my right foot.  So I push off the wall with my left and no problems.  Like the others have said, stretch out, or try not to point you toes so much.

I get them in my calves during longer workouts - I find bananas & extra hydration before a swim help out a lot.

I get them too, and I found taking Endurolytes before a wrkout helped me avoid the foot cramps.

I didn't get them at first, but after building up distance they appeared. Also i get them when I don' t push off the wall squarely. take the time to get a good flip turn or other turn in to save your feet.

I was swimming in an unfamilliar pool and wouldn't you know on my first flip turn BAM! I nailed the water jet in my arch! That hurt a lot. But I didn't hit it again!

If you just stand up regularly with weight distributed on your feet as it normally would for standing, then the foot cramp should go away quickly.

I eat a banana a day and rarely get cramps when swimming (for me, they come more often in long, cold OWS).

I eat bananas every day too, which is why I found the cramps confusing. I don't get them when going slow, but when exerting my self in practice they show up like clockwork! I have started taking some supplements and just take the Endurolytes as a precaution/preventative.

I get them in cold open water swims. I had one this September in a race that was killing me. I had to just drag my left leg. I got it half way through a mile long swim in 65 degree water with no wetsuits. Every time i took a breath my calf would cramp. So I had to switch from a faster breath every 2 strokes to a slow and controlled breath every 4 strokes.
