i honestly can't remember much of this race. i remember the start, it was cold and Q forgot his chip. i remember mile four when my ankle started to hurt and mile 14ish when achilles pain forced me to alter my stride. i remember fit falling...and bleeding, (it's mandatory for her to do this:)) and cletus laughing his ass off at her. i remember i had to run with a flexed foot for a lap or so, as flexing the calf was very painful. i remember wanting to cry and then thinking 'there is no crying in ultras'. i remember my best pal fit sticking with me and letting me pace us. there were a few times when i had to run faster than she may have wanted and there were way more times that i was running slower than she wanted but i did what my legs would allow me and she stuck by my side the whole way. i cannot thank her enough, had she not been beside me i would have stopped after the third lap and fell into an ice bath, but i couldn't let her down. i love her for that. i remember chippy's frozen little smile that we were so happy to see every 12.5 miles, freezing her ass off to see 5 fools run through the texas wilderness. i remember seeing aaron come in for his last lap, smiling ear to ear and waving ol' glory. i remember passing Q during an out and back on the third lap and trying to get enough energy and trixieness in my voice to cheer him on. i remember the cold and the darkness of the last three miles when it was too dangerous for us to run. i remember walking as fast as our broken bodies would carry us, what i did NOT remember is the words to eye of the tiger, and again, fit was there to help me out. i remember trying not to pee my pants as fit called chickens from all over the state to come and join us...beGAWK! most of all, i remember the relief we felt as we saw the light of the tents and the red glow of the numbers on the finisher's clock. and we want to do twice that distance in three months?!WTF!

Event comments:

i think we all agreed that the race wasn't that much fun, but the weekend was awesome. it wasn't the race's fault, it was an easy course in a beautiful park. it was well supported and there were more spectators than one would expect. it was just a bad day for most of us. i will return to do this again as i have unfinished business in Huntsville, TX.

I hoped you liked it. When I was looking for a 50 miler to do alot of people suggested that race since it sounds like it has a good rep. Maybe it just easier.

What I remember is my girls not calling back "Whoop WHOOP" at 25 miles and me thinking "uh oh. no whoop whoop. they're in trouble" and then I remember my girls pressing on and kicking , just because there was NO WAY they weren't going to get their hemi on.

Thanks for letting me wink atcha. Good work, lady.

No crying in ultras????  I thought that crying was kinda the point!

Seriously, WAY TO GO THE DISTANCE, and with friends to boot.  Amazing.

Trixie, I agree with all. It was amazing to see you finish knowing how hard it was and how broken down we all were.

Plus singing Fame was pretty cool.... "I'm gonna live forever"....

You rock!!!!! and yes you are crazy for wanting to do 100

Damn--now I cry   I luv me some Trixie....and I would never leave you cause there is no "I" in Team America   You are the most awesomest, inspiring freak I know!

Cue the favorite Nancy song:

"Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you."

How could you not remember the Lyrics to Eye of the Tiger?!

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

Chorus:
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For we kill with the skill to survive

chorus

Risin' up, straight to the top
Have the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

chorus

The eye of the tiger (repeats out)...

You are so absolutely Trixilicious for doing a freakin' Ultra.

50 miles.  I get tired just DRIVING 50 miles, and your freak legs actually ran that far without falling off.

You're (one of) my hero(es), Trix.

Great Job.
