What breakfast cereals do some of you eat in the morning? Not really before a race or workout, just getting up everyday on your way to work in the morning.

What is your cereal of choice?

What is your milk of choice?

Right now, I am enjoying Total, just changed from Raisin Brand. I also eat a plain toasted (nothing added) bagel once I get to work, and an apple about half the time (depending on how hungry I am).

Frosted Shredded Mini Wheat and/or Raisin Bran; 2% milk. That's usually between a workout and work. If I don't have time to eat at home, I have oatmeal when I get to work.

I used to eat cereal every morning, but for the past 1-2 years, I choose something with a little more protein like egg on an english muffin or peanut butter on an english muffin.  I get too hungry by midmorning if I eat just a high carb breakfast.

But for the years and year I did eat cereal, I always liked cereals with lots of "stuff" and nuts in it.  Like the Great Grains cereals .....  Banana nut crunch or the one with pecans.   Low fat granola cereal was good too.   For milk, skim milk all the way!

I like Kashi Go Lean Crunch w/ skim milk. Not before a race, though. I stick with peanut butter toast for that. Although I had good luck with a Caribou Coffee mocha latte bar before my 12 mile run, so that might become my pre-race breakfast of champions for 2007.

I actually eat Rolled Oats uncooked. I consume about one cup of oats, one box of raisins and about 3/4 cup whole milk.

What? One cup of uncooked rolled oats? That's a lead brick in your stomach for sure.

I eat an egg and toast, or a bowl of Kashi GoLean with soy milk.

Cheerios or Kix.  Because it's a super healty, workout-busting breakfast?  Nope.  Because it's what's on hand for the kiddos.   Oh, and skim milk.

Actually, breakfast is usually a yogurt grabbed on the way out the door (eaten once at the office), followed by other another snack (or two) later in the morning.

Smart Start or Cheerios + skim milk.  Usually have to have something else w/ it, i.e. sugar free applesauce, an egg, or a piece of fruit.

Every morning the same thing, I just mix up the flavors:

yoghurt & OJ & a packet of oatmeal at home and then a cup of tea and banana when I get to work.

Slow cook Quaker oatmeal with some raisins added. Oatmeal plus an egg white omlet is pretty much my standard breakfast. Sometimes I get really crazy and have a bowl of bran flakes.

Pinhead Oatmeal.

It is made from Steel Cut Oats, not Rolled Oats. (Like Quaker Oats)

Oatmeal is loaded with Insoluable fiber and is known as "Nature's Whisk Broom". This means that as a pre-race meal, it is less than optimal. (Because it races through the digestive system)

One way to counteract this is to eat lots of Soluable Fiber (Like Peanut Butter) which gums up the digestive system and slows everything down. So, Race day meal is Oatmeal with Peanut Butter Toast or Banana.

I usually have oatmeal mixed with blueberries or peaches and 3-4 egg whites, or a bowl of Kashi GoLean with skim milk and a piece of fruit, or peanut butter on two toasted slices of whole grain bread and a banana.

Once in a while, most likely when I wake up from my daytime sleep, I'll have a hard boiled egg with 1 oz of low fat cheddar cheese, a sliced plum tomato and a slice (or two) of toasted whole grain bread.

I almost never eat cereal, but if I do, I turn to one of two long standing favorites: Cheese grits or Reese's Puffs with skim milk. These are chosen purely for their flavor.

Kashi Autumn Harvest (like shredded wheat) or Kashi Heart to Heart Wild Blueberry.  I usually drink it with skim milk, but I'm thinking about switching to 1%.

I mix my cereals. I will combine them into a large Tupperware jug - typically its Uncle Sam (great fiber content), Honey Bunches of Oats, Bran Flakes, Yogurt Cheerios etc... wih 1% milk. Used to top it with a banana but now trying to limit calories.

Some days I splurge and have a Honey Oat Bagel with Nutty Honey Cream Cheese or Strawberry jam.

And Sundays... woa! We do the full big breakfast out at our local diner. I never eat it all but sample a bit of scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage and the best pancakes east of the Mississippi!
