My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in California for next October.  We're flying into San Francisco and staying there for a couple days and then we want to head to wine country for 3-4 days.  Any advice on good places to stay, vineyards to check out, places to eat, etc??

Not a whole lot there other than wine and moble homes....

I only spent one very long druken day in Napa. Hit Cake Bread, Visaturee (sp), Stearling, Robert Mondave (sp), Visaturee has a little snack place where you can get cheese and some sandwiches.

Also dont forget to hit Boonesfarm

My thoughts exactly! And while your at it you can stay at the Villagio Inn & Spa which is walking distance from French Laundry. The Villagio is a fantastic place to stay, the rooms are big with balconies and sunken tubs and mega thread count sheets on the beds & fireplaces. Their spa is great to. Check out the websight, Villiagio.com or villagioinnandspa.com. The Sonoma Mission Inn is also great, and newly renovated. The suites are luxurious and the spa is super great with a big turkish bath and neat water treatments that you can enjoy while waiting for a spa treatment. But my first choice is still Villagio in the town of Yountville because you are closer to more of the places to see, like the quaint town of St. Helena ( a beautiful and super short drive) and there you will find the Culinary Institute of America, a gorgeous and grand stone building that houses the world famous cooking school. Their restraunt is lovely with amazing food prepared by the student chefs that go on to open the big world class restaraunts and very reasonably priced. Just a great place to stop by and see. Also nearby here is the Berenger Estate where you can go into wine caves and wine taste in the mansion. By the way, the French Laundry has a waiting list months and months long so if you can't get in, you can eat at Bouchon which is around the corner, owned by the same person and offers great French food at a little more reasonable price. Have fun!!!!!

Beautiful Sonoma County
Subject: RE: Napa Valley/Sonoma Advice

I think it's been made very clear that I have a bias toward Sonoma County.  It's not as "easy" as Napa, so it doesn't get the tourist draw.  Which is actually one of the things I love about it.

It's an absolutely wonderful place to live, and a fabulous place to visit. Our wineries are spread out over several different regions, rather than in one long valley (the Napa Valley is just one long stretch of road).  Each region has its own collection of great spots to stay and visit.  We have redwood forests, the ocean, beautiful valley views, award-winning restaurants (John Ash, for one), quaint little towns, fantastic places to ride/run/swim, and a lower tourist:resident ratio than Napa.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, etc.

Partner and I have been discussing moving to Russian River area in a few years...I am pushing for it even earlier...If I had a job set up already, I may be able to persuade him.  Its a beautiful area...I don't get up there enough.
