Run
Comments: I haven't been running a lot, yet I was still surprised that my heart rate jumped quickly - of course, I talked all through the early hills and wondered why I was short on breath at the top! I slowed a bit in mile 2 to bring HR back down and that helped. Running with someone helped a lot too. I would not have run this pace without a pacer! What would you do differently?: Not talk during the early hills! Post race
Warm down: We had to wait in line to get into the tent to have our chips removed. Once inside, it was hot and humid. We got our t-shirts, grabbed a bagel, and headed for the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Ummm...swimming 4900 yards in the morning? Seriously I don't think that impacted all that much, except I could feel some tightness in my legs, which is pretty typical for me. Overall I feel like I ran a good race and it was a PR! Maybe 2007 is the year to think of myself as a runner! Event comments: It's the middle of winter in Minnesota and someone decides to organize an evening 5K. How can you fault anything about that?? There were post-race activities & runner specials (with your race bib) in several local restaurants, but we didn't stick around since we were damp & getting cold. I think it would be fun if you planned for it! Last updated: 2006-12-30 12:00 AM

My race partner picked me up at 5:30PM for a 7:00 start. We drove to the site & parked. It was definitely cooler than we had anticipated - at least for standing around. There was a tent where lots of people were gathering to stay warm before the start.
Stretched and kept moving while waiting for the start. The "9 minutes to start" turned out to be more like 16...
