Comments: My plan was to not race since I am still recovering from my achilles tendon injury. Sue and I ran together, talking and gabbing until the final loop when she started to pull ahead. I just let her go. I was there to just have fun. So how the heck did I end up with a PR for a 5k? The RD at the beginning of the race was very emphatic that the distance was exactly 3.1 miles. Either he was wrong or I am just naturally getting faster. I hope the latter is correct! Even with the warm-up, my achilles felt tight when I first started running. It loosened up by the end of the second mile and mile three I felt totally normal. Yay! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just running to get some miles in and not re-injure myself. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Stretched. Stayed for the awards. Sue and I are in the same age group this year. She got 1st (of 3) and I got 2nd. Came home and took a hot shower to warm up. Then iced my foot/ankle. Usually I just ice at night so I'll see how icing twice today works for my AT. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having an injured/healing achilles tendon. Event comments: Just a very small local race. No extras, but it's nice to see all the highschool cross country and track kids out supporting their school. Last updated: 2007-01-01 12:00 AM

The usual: Get up. Feed chickens, dogs and cats. Ate an egg, cheese, english muffin sandwich and drank a glass of OJ.
Got to the race too early. Walked across the street to Walgreens and browsed the Christmas clearance items. Almost bought some M&M's but resisted. Besides I already have a big bag in the cupboard at home.
Took a 10 minute brisk walk and did about 5-6 minutes of stretching.
