Morning all...why is it that cars seem to think bikes a) can stop very quickly and b) that we are really slow? I was going downhill at about 30mph yesterday and some idiot decides to pull out and cross both lanes into his drive, i had to slam my brakes on an narrowly missed imbedding me and my shiney new bike in his crappy car.

Oh well

Good morning all...plan to swim and pilates today.

In response to the car vs bike...I think the problem today is everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere, anywhere, while their eating, reading, phoning, applying makeup, etc. in the car.  This leads to mighty rude and careless people on the road in large metal attack vehicles.  Just remember their bigger than us, so we need be extra careful while biking.

a swim and a run on tap for today.  I'll run on the treddy again and see how the knee feels with the new running shoes before taking it outside.

Good morning everyone, went to spin class this morning and did a 30 min. core workout after. Going to the pool at lunch for about 1500m.

About the car thing, I agree with evelyn, I think it's because everyone is in such a hurry these days, and so distracted while trying to drive. I can't tell you the amount of times I've almost been hit while running when I run past the Dunkin Donuts at 5:00 in the morning. A good reminder to be extra careful out there.

Have a good day everyone.

Whenever I see a car about to cross my path, I get up out of the aero position, sit high, make myself as visible as possible and put my fingers on the brakes just in case. All of the crash stories have given me a healthy dose of caution.

And, like Machievelo, I wear very bright colors so I'm easily seen by a distracted driver. I've also yelled at a few folks who didn't look like they were giving me the right-of-way.

Oh, and today is a rest day. Its raining here and should continue all day, great cave day.

It's not exclusive to cycling.  You wouldn't believe how many people apparently fail to see me on my candy orange motorcycle.  People have just become too used to doing everything but paying attention while driving.  Bikers and cyclists don't have a choice.  One moment of distraction could kill us.  Be safe and ALWAYS pay attention.

Anyway, today is a running day for me working on hills.  I'm doing the Muddy Buddy race in October and the course is pretty intense.

OT, I had my first swim training yesterday and was very encouraged.  I've never received instruction other than the very basics as a kid and definitely haven't swam regularly ever in my life.  I haven't started training yet, because I didn't want to burn bad habits into my muscle memory.  My coach made several changes to my stroke and gave me a set of drills to do.  She said she saw a huge improvement in my stroke in just the hour we worked on it (endless pools are great!).  She said with how quickly I picked up things last night and the fact that I had an okay stroke to begin with, she's confident I'll become a solid swimmer pretty quickly.  I've always felt fortunate that I have good body awareness.  It lets me see technique and come pretty close to copying it right away.

Good day all!

Rain, Rain, and more Rain. I don't mind running in the rain, but not in a torrential downpour. Therefore, I did my 5 mile run on the treadmill this morning. It also appears that I'll be doing tonight's scheduled bike on the trainer as the remnants of TS Bonnie move through.

Well, I'm officially back in the saddle today. The girl-child has graduated and moved her little self to Portland, Oregon. We got a call that they'd arrived safely last night. The grandmothers have gone back to their respective houses. Now, except for the boy-child and HIS college room-mate who are both here, it's back to normal. And pretty much the only way I know they are here is that the refrigerator is chronically empty and there are 6 pairs of ENORMOUS shoes on the floor of this room. I can live with that. And, anyway, they'll move back to school soon.

So, I can start training again. I'm thinking running tonight and yoga this morning and maybe weights. But I don't know where weights will go in the schedule, so I probably won't get to that.

Cue the Gene Autry music.... "Back in the saddle again.... Toting my old 44......"

maybe we could attatch somesort of missle rack between our aerobars and blow bad drivers off the road? Actually the thing that annoys me the most is people 9usually ones with expensive cars for some reason) who park in cycle lanes. What I really want to do is get a big ass blow torch and cut their car in half as if a bike had rode straight through it...just a thought

2.5 mile run this morning. I will try to get some weights in this evening. I also signed up for a 5K last night since I decided I needed a little motivation.

I like this idea!

I'm doing the Stroke & Stride tonight in Boulder (750 or 1500m swim, then 5K run).  I'll likely do the 750 m swim b/c if I stick it out for the 1500, I'll surely come in last.  Then, I'm going out for a margarita - woo hoo!

I wimped out of my bike ride this morning. It was raining and the thought of a very dark, wet, 5am ride just didn't get me out there. I'll try to make it up the evening.

Planning an hour long bike today over lunch. I live in a small town that isn't very bike friendly. An acquaintance of mine always seems to veer closer to the shoulder when he sees me. I don't think he recognizes me in my helmut, but even though he's a nice guy, I've lost a little respect for him. Makes me want to get cyclist friendly bumper stickers to plaster on my car.

I'm having a really hard time getting back in the swing of things since a minor surgery last Wednesday. I'm hoping today's ride will be an improvement. It really couldn't get any worse than my Mon. and Tues. workouts.
