Total Time = 54m 31s
Overall Rank = 3750/4174

Age Group Rank = 586/1513
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 7...:15-ish, snoozed the alarm once.
made toast and tea (chamomile this time) and was out the door with hubby and daughter and dog by 8:25 (a world record!)
made it to the east side of nyc in record time as well and even got a good and semi-legal parking spot
Event warmup:

little to none (unless you count the major increase in heart rate when i bent down to put something in my backpack once we got to central park and stood up to see that brianna was missing... and jorge didn't know where she was either... she wandered off and we/i panicked for what seemed like a really long time... she was fine, but my heart was racing when she came back)
hooked up w/jen at the 11min/mile marker to start the race
Run
  • 54m 27s
  • 5 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

mile one was not as terrible as i thought, we chased down the buildings (larry lighthouse and wendy windmill) and kept them behind us the rest of the way.
mile two felt great - i was breathing easy and my legs felt good. when it was over, i realized what was left was really a 5K which i'd done, so that helped to think about it that way.
mile three was okay, started to feel twinges in my left ankle, probably from my stride... don't know, it wasn't major
mile four was tough, started to labor on the hill, when i got that gentle push it was like a gift from god
mile five was fun, we turned it up a bit thereby getting that negative split - yay!
on the whole i'm just so happy to be able to say i ran this distance, my longest to date. i walked the water stations, so i know i could probably improve my time if i skipped a couple of them.
great experience and wonderful to have a more experienced runner to go through it with me.
What would you do differently?:

take one more quick swig of water before the race start - had dry mouth the first mile
other than that, nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

walked to get the hot chocolate that was my reward for finishing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

need more experience at this distance. this really was a "training run" for the half... but now i know i can complete 5 miles physically and mentally

Event comments:

anything nyrr does will be well organized and have a good turnout, great chance to see lots of different types of runners out there... it was a perfect day to be running and i thanked mother nature for smiling on all of us with bright sunshine and great temps

Good RR. It's  always is a big help to have a little push to get you over the hump.  Jenn was a great support! Very proud of you for doing the distance. I would have chickened out.  Heck I've never done that distance. YOu'll do great on the 1/2
