Hot!! OK I began this journey 16 weeks ago when I decided to try to qualify for Boston. That means a 3;15 Marathon. My last marathon was 3:33...so you can see that is a bid improvement. Training here in Indiana...I as able to hi all my splits in training..I was ready to qualify. The race began in fog and uper 60s....muggy. It wa already hotter than any of my trainng runs.

The 1st 10 miles I as under 7:15 miles...All was good. It was hot and the effort I was using was more than it should have been. As the miles passed, My pace slipped. My body felt the heat beginning to wither me. My legs were gettin gthe begging of cramps...I took a few salt pills. It seemed to keep the bad cramps at bay. at mile 23, I was in MGM and saw a drinking fountain...PERFECT...I popped a fe more salt pills and pushed the button on the fountain...the WATER WAS OFF!!! I had to run the nes 1/2 mile with the pills stuck in the back of my dry throat! As I exited MGM...both calves and a hamsting locked up in pain that dropped me. I finally got back up and finished the las 3 miles with pain shooing through my body with every step I took...The heat got this Yankee! I didn't qualify...but maybe next time.

Too bad about not getting your BQ time like you wanted.  You ran a heck of a good time though in those conditions.

Congrats!

You'll grab that BQ before you know it.  Were you running with the 3:10 pace group at all?  Just curious if we were running side by side for any amount of time.  That would have been neat.

Way to stick it out.

Good race. As much as I didn't mind NOT being cold, the heat and humidity were definately a factor. Good luck on your next BQ attempt.
