Walked into the Sauna the other day.
I relize the Sauna is a "naked" place. Many people wear or don't wear a towel. I am fine with that.
But there was an old man lying on his back with his two legs up in the air.
I walked in and walked right out. I can't sweat in a hot room with that going on.
On the way out I saw my friend who was going in and he asked why I wasn't going for a steam. I just said, "Balls" and kept walking. He walked in, walked out and said, "you couldn't have clarified what you meant"

weird. Our sauna is coed- I have never been in a sauna with just other women, and frankly, I don't think I'd like it at all. (seriously) it's pretty tight quarters in there-- I'd be waaaaaayyyyy too self conscious.

it's kind of attatched to the pool area, and people walk in in their suits or in shorts/tees...

rbschlesinger - 2007-01-11 4:01 PM I have never heard of a co-ed sauna. What is the attire?

The only co-ed one that I've seen was about the size of a closet with benches and it was posted as "swimsuits required"

My women's gym sauna is (obviously) all-women and there's plenty of room to lie, sit, and stretch a little while naked.  Rarely does someone wear a swimsuit or make efforts to cover-up.  I dry off and stretch there often.  It's dimly lit but when the door opens I make sure to not be mooning whoever is walking in.  That's just common courtesy.

In one section of our locker room, there are 2 extra sinks close to the steam room and that have a view directly into the prison style shower room (open, no curtains).  The odd thing is that there is a plastic chair near these sinks that faces directly into the shower stalls.  The odder thing is the guy that I see 2-3 times a week sitting in that chair... naked... reading a magazine...

Um... doesn't he have something better to do?

Back to the OP: we too have our share of "loungers" in the steam and sauna rooms.

Possum... I want to join your gym... are the locker rooms co-ed too?  I'll find a plastic chair and a magazine.

I have been in both...My current gym is coed...I have a problem with the temp. of it.  people poor water on the thermometer to get the steam to come on...which raises the temp too high.  way to high.  I love the heat, but it gets really bad.

Me and a friend were sitting in the sauna one day when another guy came in and he had a little bottle and he asked, "you guys mind eucaliptis oil?". Meaning he would put some in the vent to give it that "fresh eucaliptis smell".
My friend said, "Awe man that would be great my back has been so tight" and turned his back to the guy like he was expecting a massage.
It still makes me laugh when I think about the guys face.

oh that remionds me of my first eucaplyptis experience: I was in a sauna, and saw the spray bottle in the corner. I thought, "What a great idea, it will cool me off!"  I assumed it was just water. So I sprayed it in my face. OW. Imagine the shaviong scene in 40 YR old Virgin. That was me. Freakinidiot.

I will never go into another sauna in a Bally's again........ There was about a 2 week stretch at the local Bally's that some sick person kept leaving gifts in the sauna....... I think they finally caught the person..... So, there are worse things that can be found in a sauna..

Gay, hetero, solo, whatever. Take it outside, go get a room, yada yada. No reason to be doing the dirty in the public sauna.

Cool

Cool

absolutely...sorry should have said "just kidding" on it.  I did have a manager at the Y however that described why it happens as frequently as it does, especially, but not exclusively, in the gay areas of town.  Guys come in, they workout, they make a connection with their body.  Testosterone is flowing.  Then there are other guys that are feeling the same way...then we put them together in a hot steamy room naked....um...whoops.  One of the Y's in my area...not the one I worked at, had a problem, and they couldn't figure out how to fix it.  I said give discounts to the hotel next door.   other people on this thread have joked about wanting to join the coed gym...for the coed sauna...why would that be?

Don't get me wrong...I am against it.  but I understand why it happens.

Thanks.  Now I'll be singing this all afternoon:

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy

Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
They have everything for young men to enjoy.
You can hang out with all the boys.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel.

I'm not a member of my local club any more, but when I was, the best bet was to be in there with the blind guy.

Come to think of it, maybe it was all just a ruse and he was faking it.

Wow, talk about classy!

Today's life lessons we can learn from someone else's mistake:  never spray anything in  your face without first knowing for sure what it is.

Our sauna is the co-ed type by the pool too.  I rarely use it, but went in a couple of times with a female gym-acquaintance who I'm pretty sure was a stripper.  She would stretch vigorously, then insist on stretching me too... she wore teeny little minimal clothing, had skinny legs and the requisite boob job and mass of dyed blonde hair.  The amusing part about it was watching, out of the corner of my eye, all of the guys watching her out of the corner of their eyes.  Okay, it wasn't THAT amusing, but there you go.  The little muscles on the side of their necks would go all twitchy where they wanted to turn.   heh.
