In my gym it is in the ladie's area.   I like the steam room.   However, most of the ladies go into the steam room in swim suits or about 3 towels.   I thing the idea is more au natural there.

So, I am probably the "weird naked lady" in my gym....

Some former custodians of a very upscale gym chain in NYC (Equinox) are suing because they've been traumatized by having walked in on people having sex in the steamrooms and locker rooms, and even more so by having to clean up after them.  Ew.

Three funny sightings today at the gym...must be a full moon or something.  There is a woman on the stair climber (I call this maching the escalator from hell, because it never stops) she was dancing while climbing the steps...arms waving, hips swinging...funny thing was...she was good.  She could really move.  Then their was the 100 year old lady (not sure of real age) doing Tai Chi in the middle of the free weight area...not so much funny or annoying...as I just imagine putting together a youtube video, showing her doing tai chi and superimposing a bunch of martial arts guys getting beat to hell by her.  Third was the "bum" looking guy that smelled of cigarettes and talked to himself the entire time.  loudly...he was disturbing.

And yet...they probably make more money than I do.  Actually, I know people that would probably pay to do their job...oh well, to each their own.

Amen! There's one lady at my Y that insists on curling just the bar on the brand new squat racks. Which happen to be right next to a rack of curl bars and 2 curl benches. Oy!

oooh, I worked out there once- no sex, as far as I could see, but man, all the products in the locker room were awesome, and there were puffy white towels everywhere, and wow... it was heavenly

Is there a long bar on the curl benches...Have you spoken to the Y staff about this?  A fitness coach can give her suggestions.  It was very frustrating as a fitness coach when someone would come up to me and say...this person is always hogging so-and-so machine, its been going on for months.  I would ask, "have you expressed this to anyone."

"well, no."

from experience...staff doesn't realize there is a problem until someone brings it to their attention.

I've mentioned it, but apparently it hasn't really changed much.

Aaarrggg!  see that wouldn't fly at the Y I worked at.  If a member is told something(unless they have a specific physical reason / disability) and they keep performing the same infraction we ask them to leave.  If they are doing something that the trainers and the managers find within their right or is something they need for afore mentioned disability or reasoning, we then tell the individuals affected.  Often what we would try to do is find a compromise that would make everyone happy.

One gentleman, who was one of the most muscularly defined men I have ever scene in my life, liked to do supersets...people got upset that he was on more than one machine.  People were afraid to ask him if they could work in.  Once, us trainers, encouraged them to talk to this gentleman and actually ask the question, many of them became good friends with him, and he began to share his wealth of knowledge with them.  The Y is not like other gyms...it is suppose to be a place to bring people together as a community.  We also educated the people complaining on the benefits of what he was doing and why he was doing it...and instead of seeing him as insensitive or rude...they then saw him as a serious athlete.  Communication made all the difference.

Yup, the Y is different in many respects.  In my experience at the gyms where I've worked, I fully believe that some are driven solely by bringing in members (& the service stops there, basically) while others are driven by retaining their members, who will then refer others, so there's more emphasis on meeting needs of current members & maintaining equipment to higher standards.  The responsiveness, or lack thereof, to member complaints is usually reflective of which approach corporate dictates.  At a non-profit gym, the focus is more on accessibility and the community and they are particularly member-oriented, IMHO.

As far as the extracurricular activities in the locker room... a common occurance... this is precisely why many clubs have showers with either no curtain/door or a curtain that is 1/2 clear...
