Subject: Pan-Mass Challenge

So far, my 2007 season is shaping up to include some pretty big challenges this year. I will do my first full marathon in February, my first full Half IronMan in June and I will have my first stab at coaching as a team leader for Danskin Team Training New England. This is all really great stuff that helps me to fulfill several personal goals.

But, the biggest and most exciting challenge I have taken on this year is to take part in the
Pan-Massachusetts Challenge.

For those of you unfamiliar, it is a bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown MA that takes place over the course of 2 days. It is a 192 miles of fairly hilly and challenging terrain. The purpose of the ride is to raise money for cancer research and treatment for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

I have committed myself to this challenge because cancer has affected me, several of my family members, and many friends and neighbors. I have committed to this challenge because I love a good physical challenge and because I want to take part in helping to find a cure and better treatment for those affected by cancer.

In order to achieve these goals, I need your support. A contribution from you will help me to reach my goal, but it ultimately will help us all.

Thanks in advance for your contribution.

$175 so far Rob!! Only $3425 to go!!

Thanks to all who have made a donation so far!

Here is why this is such a great organization and a such a great event.

The Pan Mass Challenge is the largest and most successful athletic fundraising event in the United States. In 2006, PMC riders raised 26 million dollars; 99 percent of which went directly to the Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Only one cent of each dollar raised through riders sweat and determination was used for administrative and organizational expenses. The PMC is considered among the leanest of fundraising organizations in the nation today.

This is truly a cause worth supporting!

Remember that your contribution is tax deductible—any amount will help!

Please pass along the information to friends and family and consider asking your company for a matching gift!

Sorry to get off topic Pam, just think of it as a bump

BUT, I heard last night at practice that most triathlon race entry fees are tax deductible because most races end up being for charity in the end.

Take it from the tax guy, they are not.  You don't get a charitable deduction if you get something in return.

Okay people—the important thing to note is that any donation you make toward this effort, no matter what the amount IS tax deductible.

The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is the largest and most successful athletic fundraising event in the United States. Please give what you can!

Sorry Pam...did not mean to confuse the issue.  Yes, if you give to this cause, it will  be tax deductible.  Your entry fee into a race that donates money to charity is most likely not tax deductible.

So in other words, give lots of money to Pam for the Pan-Mass challenge.
