Potatoes

Other root vegetables

Wholemeal breads

High fiber breakfast cereals

Porridge oats

All bran

Wheetabix

Shredded wheat

Ryvita crispbread

Muesli

Cassava

Corn

Yam

Oatcakes

Peas

Beans

Lentils

I want know if I want to increase my carb loading in a daily basis, what are the ideal carbs for me?

Thanks...

Carlos

Hey Charlie,
I don't see fruit juice or fresh fruit on your list. Bananas are practically legendary for their carb content.

That looks like a good list of carbs to choose from. You should be eating fruit as well, even though they are mostly simple carbs, there are still alot of nutritional value to them.

I also like to use Couscous as a staple carb. So many ways to flavor it and its simple to make. Try adding some curry, garlic powder or some cooked onion. MMMMM

My personal fave? Beans and rice (cooked with very little fat).

Can be red beans and rice Cajun style, one of the various carriben styles, italian style, I don't care.

Aside from the uh hem! gastrointestinal issues, you get lots of complex carbs, plenty of fiber (making it a less than stellar prerace meal, btw) and complete proteins.

Plus, some fruit like bananas and kiwis, have excellent amounts of potassium. Good stuff for staving off cramps.

Check out the Zone diet books. They have an excellent list of good high complex carbs.

You would want to increase your carbs if your in the midst of training and racing. If your done for the season then you want to cut way back.
