Subject: Need your help - running gear for homeless! Now don't laugh...I know that sounds funny, but here's the scoop. There is a running group in town that is training a group of 10 men from the Denver Rescue Mission to run the Colfax Marathon. The Denver Rescue Mission houses homeless men who are trying to get out of their situation. They are often recovering alchoholics or drug abusers, or maybe just down on their luck. These men get picked up every Saturday to train with the group. Today, when it was 20F, snowy and icy, most showed up in sweats, hoodies, and flannel shirts. They have sponsors for the marathon(in May), but not for training clothes (cold weather). I am trying to collect gear and money to outfit these brave men so that they are comfortable when training. What an amazing self-esteem builder this could be for them, finishing a marathon. But remember how miserable it is to run in sweats and cotton? If you would like to donate long-sleeve technical tees, running jackets, tights, gloves, hats, or pants, please PM and I will send you my shipping address. Most of the men are size L or XL. If you'd like to donate money so that I can purchase gear, I will PM you my paypal account. Any small amount, $5.00 even, would be a great help. JFYI, I am also contacting local running stores to try to get donated items. Melanie |
