Hey everybody, hope the winter training is going well (or better than mine!). A friend and I were discussing what half Ironman to do this year. He has never done one, I did Spirit of Racing last year and enjoyed it. He wants to do High Cliff because someone else told them it was better (I think he should listen to me of course). Has anybody done both and which is better?

Thanks - Zaboo

I did the half in both races last year, and definitely preferred Racine, mainly because I thought the larger numer of competitors made it more exciting, and because I preferred the Racine bike course. I really liked the run at High Cliff, though, and as a horrible swimmer found the Racine swim to be more challenging. Overall, I would say Racine, particularly if price is not a factor.

Sounds like both have their advantages. And since Zaboo hasn't done High Cliff I think he should do High Cliff with me. I think he forgets how much he dislikes the swim.

Racine was fun! Lots of people, playground and zoo for the kids to be entertained for the 6 hours the race took. Swimming in the Lake wasn't too bad. It will suck no matter where I go and at that time of year the water temp was fantastic. The Hammer products on course was a bonus also (especially the endurolytes in the 95 degree heat!). I missed the BT get together last year but plan on making it this year. I think TundraCat and AjFreddy should do this one. What is anyone doing mid July anyway?

I'm thinking of doing the Spirit of Racine this year. Does anyone know if this race fills up quickly? AKA....how early should I register?

If I remember correctly from last year, it didn't fill up until pretty close to race time.
