Brasstown Bald just made number 46 in Pro Cycling Magazine's 50 Greatest Climbs. It got me thinking............. if the Tour of Ga mountain stage ended on top of Hogpen Gap, it probably would rate higher than Brasstown.

For some reason I think Brasstown is harder than Hogpen - not that I have ever tried riding up Brasstown (I have driven up it for the TdG one year and my car had a hard time getting up there). I think sections of Brasstown are cetainly steeper than Hogpen.

You're probably right but Brasstown is only about 3 miles (If you don't include the Unicoi Gap approach) and since it's so steep, it forces me to mash and I end up going super slow. Hogpen on the other hand is seven miles of mixed mashing and spinning and to me it's pure pain and suffering.

Agreed on that - you definitely know best, since I have never tried riding up Brasstown...just watching the pros suffering during TdG is enough for me! I had fun watching them the past 3 years while I sit my butt on the side of the drinking drinking a cold beer!

Haven't ridden Hogpen or Brasstown yet (only done 3 Gaps) - how does Hogpen compare to Wolfpen?  Brasstown?

I can't wait to hit 3/6 gaps this spring. Total sufferfest.

Brasstown is similar to Wolfpen in length, but the majority of it is like the upper third of wolfpen.
Hogpen is like the upper third of wolfpen for seven miles (except for a couple of flat spots.). I'm up for a Gap group ride after the Tundra TT. No need to wait until spring.

I could be up for a 3 Gap ride sometime in March...big factor for me is how my daughter's soccer schedule plays out.  I coach the team.

I am all over a gap ride in late March/early April. Would be fun to get a big group together.

Definitely in for a gap ride anytime! I spent a large amount of time up there last fall training and love the suffer!
