Subject: Should I do these extra races?
So I finished my first tri 2 weeks ago (WOO HOO!). It went really well. I biked a LOT faster than I thought since I've been doing most of my biking on an indoor trainer at 12 mph (converted to 14.5 mph on the road), and I ran 9:30/min miles instead of my usual 10 min/miles during practice. The swim, however, was a lot slower than I expected. I went out too fast, and stopped everytime I hit someone or felt someone hit me. We were all popping our heads out saying sorry to each other. Pretty dumb, really. I was comforatable in the water due to my open water practice, but it took time to swim around all those people, and I shouldn't have stopped so much.

Anyway, to my point. There's an open water sprint tri coming up in 2 weeks (Sept 5th) which I'm not signed up for, and another on Sept 19th that I am signed up for. I haven't swam since the week before my 1st ever tri, so I've been out of the water for 3.5 weeks. I've kept up the running and biking, but I'm worried about the swim now if I attempt tri #2 in only 2 weeks. So, should I:

a) Swim 4x a week the next 2 weeks and do the tris on the 5th and the 19th?
b) Restart my usual 2x a week and just do the tri on the 19th?

I simply can't decide what to do, and don't know if as a beginner, I can do these 2 tris so close together without having swam lately. Thanks for your input!

We can't tell you whether you should race or not. Ultimately that is up to you. Unless you forgot how to swim in the last 3.5 weeks, you should swim as much as you need to or can in order to get you ready for the first race.

Yes do the races, I also think option B " Restart my usual 2x a week and just do the tri on the 19th? " will be fine you have already gained the fitness and should be able to do well in the up and comming races.

Yes, do them. It sounds like you are in good shape without the swimming. Just get back into the usual routine.

Thanks. I haven't taken such a long break from swimming, so I didn't know if that would hugely effect my performance. I'll go ahead and sign up!

You go girl!  I'm assuming the one on the 5th is Race the Rockies?  If so, it's a good one.  You'll do great!
