Pre-race routine:

not much really.. rolled out of bed at 7:30 .. got up about every 1/2 hr after 5am.. I alway get the jitters I guess.. Made coffee.. ate a granola bar.. drank my coffee.
Event warmup:

a quick 50 in the pool.. felt good did a flip.. thought I woudl tri it out.. and see.. both ends are deep in the natatorium.. so no head injuries.. lol.
Swim
  • 30m
  • 1650 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

I kept my pace pretty good.. started feeling slower after 15 minutes... I was 150 slower then last year (1750).. but that is because I swam like 50K in dec/jan last year.. so I was in MUCH better shape I guess...

I did flips the first 400 but quickly got so tired cause I do them wrong.. pushing down deep and off to the right sometimes... more of a hinderence then a benefit I guess... so I resorted to tagging the walls and pushing off...
What would you do differently?:

train more .. doh!!
Transition 1
  • 00m 10s
Comments:

std. 10 minute interval.. no choice
Bike
  • 30m
  • 7.77 miles
  • 15.54 mile/hr
Comments:

I hate this bike.. whats more.. I didn't realize we started.. until about 2 minutes into it.. what a dope!! I put my iPod on too early and everyone was just 'warming' up causaully.. so I did the same.. next thing I know everyone has already start pushing.. and I am gingerly waiting for the 'gun' so to speak.. sheesh.. So I likely lost a partial mile there.. ALos, I used my clips and my right leg clipped in crooked..so my right leg felt really weird after awhile...
What would you do differently?:

avoid the crooked freaking clip.. start on the BEGIN time.. and not wait until 2 minutes into it.. DOH!
Transition 2
  • 00m 10s
Comments:

std . 10 minutes .. changed and headed up to the dreadmills
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.44 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

started too fast at 7.0.. maintained 7.0 until 1.5 then moved ot 6.8.. at 2.5 I moved to 6.5... i just wasn't feeling it I guess.. Last year I did so much better.. I pushed it back to 7.0 at 2 minutes left and 8.5 at 1 minute.. .finished strong .. but a tempo woudl have been goood.. my HR was 165most of the way... !!
What would you do differently?:

i dunno.. I have been packing in the miles lately too.. so it must be the lack of sleep and the terrible headache I had yesterday...
Post race
Warm down:

staggered around... stretched a bit... headed over to the finish area.. and had a drink and got my flop... dressed and then took pictures .. overseeing the pool (see below) ...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my general well being i think.. i have been pummling my body .. and I generally didn't feel well yesterday.. so .. I m thinking thats the case anyhow... I was actually surprised on the pool part of it .. and very dissapointed with the bike and mildly disappointed with the run... I want to much right now and my body hasn't caught up to my brain.. go figure...

Event comments:

I like this race.. I like meeting with all the BTers... its fun.. the after lunch at Loring Pasta was excellent.. those bathrooms are cool!! Had a great time.. its a must tri indoor race... well do it again next year for sure... I will beat my best next year for sure!!

those bike can kiss my arse. i can average almost 19 mph in a HIM, but on a stationary bike i can't maintain 16 mph for 30 minutes? whatever! so, you're not alone. it was great seeing you again. thanks for posting the picture!

Pretty great race if you weren't feeling well! You also should know too that your feet were about the same size as the tread on the treadmill. It's a wonder you don't trip yourself I didn't want to say anything at the time, but as I was watching from behind (what else would I do for the 30 minutes?) I noticed you come pretty close to the edge a few times... Those were some darn narrow treadmills.

Keep at it!  This race is so different from anything else we do (race-wise)!  You still came out with a good result...you'll be back in top shape in no time!  Listen to your body!

I HATE all stationary bikes.  At least I have every single one I have met in my life thus far.

Good to have a bad race on an indoor tri than on one of your A races later, right?

Looks like you had a lot of friends there though, which is also good.
