Total Time = 1h 08m 59s
Overall Rank = 25/63
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/20
Pre-race routine:

Ate my usual power bar with coffee when I got up, then a banana and water while driving to the race.
Event warmup:

A little jogging around pool deck, but not much.

Comments:

Pool wasn't overly warm, and it was quite dirty. I felt OK, and for the most part was able to keep with my breath on every 3 strokes. Didn't hang too long on the sides before pushing off. I think the longest I stayed was for 3 breaths. Being 50 yrds wide helps reduce your ability to hang on the side. This pool had no super deep end, so that helped with my menal issues I have with deep water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.

Comments:

I looked at my watch and the run from the steps of the pool to my bike was 50 some seconds. Almost a full minute. Usually it doesn't matter where you rack your bike, but in this Tri it did. And as it turned out, I racked it in the farthest spot possible. Lesson learned. My set up was good, but I put a sock on upside down, and had to redo it. I was able to run with my bike and did a running/jumping mount (on the line this time) and all was good.
What would you do differently?:

The socks I used are impossible to tell which side is toe up, so if I use them again, I have to pay attention to that before I roll them down and put them in my bike shoes.

Comments:

Once I found a gear I liked, I just stayed in it the whole time. course was flat, with a few spots of bumpy, decorative cobblestone crap along one street, but a fairly smooth course.
What would you do differently?:

I did not fill my aero bottle with my whole bottle of water because last time it kept splashing me. This time I ran out on the last lap. I could have used more water due to my cold meds drying me out. So splash or not, I need more water.
Transition 2

Comments:

Wish I had my speed laces in my new shoes. MUST do that before next race.
What would you do differently?:

Speed laces.
Run

  • 2 miles
  • 08m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was tough. Lungs were REALLY not happy at this point. Felt my last mile was better than the first, but I was happy with my time considering how I felt.
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick.
Post race
Warm down:

It's all about the chocolate cake donut, baby!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick.

Event comments:

Tri Family racing usually puts on a good race. I don't like how they have drawings at the end for free stuff. He just calls out numbers, and he usually calls the same numbers over and over. Grrrrrrrr
This time the timing was messed up. Not sure what went on, but seems like they had problems.

Good work... being that you were not feeling good and all. You are a fighter!

We have to get you into a good race, then you will not be so high on the Tri-Family Racing races. They are still fun though, but if they are going to set up timing mats why can't they put 2 extra mats and get your transition times. Right?

How can you dislike free drawings?

Very cool race

7th place AG definitely puts you at the front of the pack. (Those are some speedy splits)

That is very cool that you live in a place with an outdoor winter racing season. (Your in much better shape for the spring/summer season)

Rest and Recover well and congratulations

Awesome race!  Very nice splits.  The run did seem a little harder than normal.  Guess I missed meeting the BT folks again.  I'll wear a big name tag next time.
