Pre-race routine:

Went to packet pick-up then had an awesome dinner at Ellen's the night before.
Event warmup:

None. By the time I found a parking spot and used the bathroom it was 10 minutes till the start. The only reason I found everybody was because of Max's pink hair.

Comments:

I stayed with Max and May the whole time. Rob and Pam were always close by too. It was cool to be able to run with others. Max got a ton of attention because of his costume! Imagine that!
I felt really good up till mile 8.Then my legs felt slightly tired. By mile 10, my quads and right calf were all cramped up.
Honestly, Max saved me those last 3 miles. I felt like just stopping and sitting down. We decided that misery loves company and that it hurt more to walk than it did to run.
I couldn't imagine doing the full and having to do another loop like Pam and Rob did. They did great!

My legs have NEVER been more sore than today...one day after. I am seriously walking downstairs backwards. Whats with that!
What would you do differently?:

Train more! Use more bodyglide!
Post race
Warm down:

Got some drinks. Saw my husband, kids, and in-laws. That was a nice suprise!
After that, we waited in a long line to get some fruit, bagels and chips. As soon as I started eating my stomach felt off, and I had to run to the ladies room. I had planned to change and go to the BBC with everyone afterwards but I decided that I had better just go home because I felt so yucky.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't get in as many long runs as I had hoped for due to an ongoing ITB/piriformis type of injury. Still I didn't think I would have too many problems because I had done 2 long runs of over 2 hours in the weeks before the race. I thought that I would run at around 2:20
Considering the cramps, I am happy with the 2:25

Event comments:

I would like to do this race again next year.

Hey Patty, you did awesome for your 1st half marathon!  I think part of the battle is just getting over that mileage barrier for the 1st time.  Take some time to recover, do a few more 5-7 mile runs and the next 1/2 mary will be a lot easier.  I was glad you were there to run with the last few miles especially.  I probably wouldn't have walked any more, but at least having someone along takes your mind off the misery!

Fun race...it was a blast hanging out on both Saturday and Sunday!

Patty....Congrats on your first 1/2 Mary!

You did awesome and had a nice pace for the whole race. Glad you had Max with you for the last 3 miles to help motivate you to suck it up and keep going.

Sounds like some PT and dealing with those aches and pains now would be a good idea.

Congrats and I can't wait to run a 1/2 Mary with you or maybe do Nutmeg HIM with you...going to be a great tri year!!

Patty—you did great! Awesome time for your first half mary and way to hang in when it got rough. Was great having your company for the first 13.1 miles! I have to say that as all the half marathoners veered off to the finish I was a bit envious that you all were done

Nice job! Take a rest and come back even stronger for your next!
