Centreville, Virginia
United States
Total Time = 60m
Overall Rank = 5/76
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 4/20
Pre-race routine:

This Triathlon was indoor.
This was my very first Tri and I thought it would be a good introduction.

It was based on time (need to cover the most distance in each sport).
10mn Swim
30mn Bike
20mn Run

Results at: http://www.lifetimefitness.com/events/2007_indoor_tri/index.cfm?str...

Event warmup:

a couple of laps in the swimming pool
Swim
  • 10m
  • 500 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt I did a decent swim compared to my history.
I really started swimming just 5 months ago.
And I just learnt on how to use a better stroke a couple of weeks ago.

But I need to improve a lot to swim faster.
I ranked #10 / 76 on the Swim.
The first covered 27.5 laps in 20mn

What would you do differently?:

Improve my stroke to swim more efficiently.
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

No need to rush here as evbdy had 5mn to join the cycling room
Bike
  • 30m
  • 13.8 miles
  • 27.60 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

5mn Transition for everybody.
No pb here.
Run
  • 20m
  • 2.62 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I covered 2.62 miles which is about 7:35 pace.
I sarted at 8:30, then increase to 8:00 pace at about 7mn.
Then I increase to 7:30 and finally to 7:00.

I did not have really any pb (running is my "preferred" sport).

I ranked #5 on the run.
The first covered 3.05 miles in 20mn.
What would you do differently?:

Start faster and keep the pace.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience.
This was my first Tri.

Event comments:

I loved the atmosphere. The music during the bike was awsome.

I recommend this Tri for anybody that wants to get introduced to the sport in a soft manner.
Also this is probably a good tune up Tri for the more exprienced Triathletes.

Course: We had to cover the most distance on some spinning bike in 30mn. I spinned regularly the whole 30mn. The music probably helped too. :) No particular pb except my right foot was not properly maintained on the pedal and the bike was not properly fit. I probably averaged 100-105 rpm. I ranked #4 / 76 on the bike. The first covered 15.9 miles. I covered 13.8 miles. Of course these distances are probably "exaggerated". That would not happen in real life with the wind and other factors.

For my first Tri, I picked up this indoor Tri in Centreville, VA.

This was a good choice.
I had a lot of fun during the race.
I finished 5 on top of the 76 registered.
See my race logs for details.

I highly recommend this race.

I am now preparing for the Worldgate Sprint Tri in Herndon, VA.

Then come 2 OLY tris this summer....

:)

This is definitely not my last.
I am hooked now.

I am looking forward to some Sprint and OLY Tris that I have in my program this year.
The open swim is something in particular that I really want to experience.

Also I just bought my first Tri bike (Felt S32 2006) to replace a 15 years old Canondale road bike that I was using for training.
That should help fpr the races to come.

Thanks for your mails and support.
This is a great web site!
