Subject: Strained hip flexor?
I think I strained my hip flexor a bit. I always try not to pull my legs up when pedaling, but I guess I do a subconsciously. I put in over 32 miles today, so I'm probably increasing distance faster than my physical ability to do so. I checked out hip flexor on google, but if someone could confirm that it is pain at the top of my thigh, in the front, right beside the groin? I am going to take tomorrow off from biking, and just run instead.

Well, I was very sore in that exact area for a week and a half after heavy hip floxor work in the gym. I didn't know it was the hip flexor till after my trainer told me though, so. Running agrivated it too (for me) though. Hell, walking, sitting and getting out of bed hurt.

Yeah, just moving around is irritating it right now, I hope I'll still be able to run tomorrow.

I took a break through late summer last year, started back too aggressively in the fall, and developed a similar pain. I ended up not running through most of October before easing back into it.

It sounds like hip flexor... and running may aggravate it even more.  Might be prudent to rest it tomorrow.

YOu should start using the training log feature on BT, they are the best anywhere (and I also subscribe to Training Peaks as a coach...BT is better!) ((Hmm...I guess I should become a paying BT member after that comment...)

Anyway, I know from your previous posts that you are fairly new at this training thing...are you the same poster who did his first 20 mile ride just 2 weeks ago, after not riding more than a few minutes at a time since you were a kid? It was something like that.

If it's you, you are increasing your mileage way too fast. Even if that 20 miler guy wasn't you, just based on how recently you began sharing your training accomplishements with us, I bet that is still the main source of your pain...too much too soon.

And yes, it does sound like your hip flexor, and yes, you need hip flexors to run. Mabye try a swim or a rest day or a massage or a hot tub session...

That sounds like your hip flexor.....I hurt mine on the left side running a marathon, right side was fine...never hurts biking but it kicks up on very long runs.....takes rest to heal....

Yeah I'm new to biking, but I've been running for 1 year. I probably am increasing mileage to fast (31m yesterday), but it's so damn enjoyable! I have been trying not to use my hip flexors to actually pedal though, and it helped yesterday.
