Subject: New bike gloves just fell apart
My gloves started to fall apart today, and I've only worn them 4 times! The seams that seperate the fingers came undone on 1 finger on each glove, but I haven't fallen on them, nor are they too small for my hands. I did handwash them in COOL water a couple days ago. The gloves didn't have washing instructions, so I figured handwashing would be fine. Does anyone know why they would do this?

Do yourself a favor...learn to ride without them....you'll never look back.  Good luck.

Sometimes, it's just too cold to go without gloves .

But to the OP...yeah, your gloves should not have fallen apart. You haven't told us what kind, but can tell you I have some cycling gloves that I've even put through the washer and dryer and they've been just fine. Your cold water wash shouldn't have done anything. I suggest another pair.

I am new to riding, so I will definitely be using gloves.

The gloves are Avenir gel gloves.

Bike gloves are great in cold weather or to protect from falls. If you are racing, they can slow you down a bit. The MIT study said removing gloves increased your speed more than adding aero wheels.

For training there's no reason not to wear them. In an oly race, 60-90 minutes without if you always train with is not abig deal. For me, the time saving is in not having to deal with them in transition.

I've suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome and padded gloves really help on long rides.  I personally like Nike gloves, but I'm sure there are other good ones out there.

Don't wear gloves for sprint races - takes too long to put them on and I can make the distance okay without them.

I'll do you one better:

I have a pair of *running* gloves that fell apart after 6 or 8 runs!  Bought them at the end of last winter and used them once or twice last year, then a handful of times this year.  At least two seams have given way.  Never washed them or anything.

The saving grace: since one of the finger seams ripped open I can stick my finger out to adjust my nano volume.

FYI, the brand is Manzella.  The model is similar to this , but I can't be sure if it's an exact match.
