Sunny
Total Time = 1h 21m 41s
Overall Rank = 158/378
Age Group = Female 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:45 a.m. Ate Clif Bar and banana and Propel at 6 a.m. Left $47 hotel room for Cain Center at 6:30 a.m.

This was my first triathlon! Woo hoo!
Event warmup:

Walked bike to transition area...I'm not much for warm ups. Event was delayed about 45 minutes due to fog on bike course. I was in the second wave and gave an estimated swim time of 9 minutes, so it was 9:54 a.m. before I actually started the swim.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt good for me. I'm pretty slow, but it felt good and easy. One girl let me pass at the wall in lane 2, and from there on out I felt like I was by myself. It felt like a great swim overall. I just started swimming 2 months ago, so hopefully I'll get faster with more practice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Ran through somewhat painful gravel parking lot from pool to bike. Stood on towel and slipped socks and cycling shoes on. Strapped helmet on and put on sunglasses. Ate one Gu and slurped some water and ran to mounting line.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn how to eat Gu while on bike to save some time. Need to work on speeding up transitions more during workouts.
Bike
  • 43m 6s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt good. Nobody passed me. I passed several people :). Wasn't paying attention at one point and followed cyclist in front of me onto wrong road. The men behind me yelled before I got too far and I had to almost come to a stop in order to make 2 U-turns. Wasted a good minute at least.
What would you do differently?:

Pay close attention to markings on road and don't blindly follow person in front of me.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Got some cool clip thingies for my shoelaces yesterday and they worked great! Took cycling shoes off quick, slipped into running shoes, took helmet off, ate Gu and slurped some water.
What would you do differently?:

Eat Gu while running.
Run
  • 26m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I wanted to walk about the first mile because I was tired. I told myself 'no walking' and kept running. Finally felt good at the turn around point. The second 1.5 miles felt really pretty good. It was quite hot out there at this point since it was already past 11 am and probably over 80 degrees with hardly any shade to speak of. Passed several people on the run. I was passed by one person at the very beginning.

I'm no good at drinking water out of cups while running, so I took one sip and then dumped the rest on my head at the half way point. That actually felt really good. I was very thirsty though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank the Accelerade in my water bottle I didn't drink on the bike. Then drank 3 cups of Powerade and some water. Felt queasy, so couldn't eat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to work on swimming faster by improving my stroke.

Event comments:

Good experience for my first triathlon. I'm glad I did it. Looking forward to lot more! :)

Very impressive outing! Especially the bike. Tough break on taking the wrong route, but save that your performance sounds almost flawless.

Your first triathlon and you get a podium finish in your age group! You will be a force to be rekond with! Tape the Gu to your bike frame, then tear it off after you get going and eat it.

Thanks for the tip...I'll try it next time! So that's why there were so many empty Gu packs on the bike course!
