Be sure to tell them of BT.com   The more people we have on here the better, just a great organizational tool too!!

The easiest thing to do would be to organize in the ND forum area.

I am talking it over with my wife and I will probably put up a site that cross liks to the regional running groups and the Tri Minneasota series and BT.com of course. I just need to think of a snappy URL. Will post details probably early next week.

For the record I am open for ideas on domain names. So far www.NDTri.com is a contender.

I have registered http://www.NDTri.comand will start building the site tonight after work.

Basically I am thinking of linking to all of the known ND Triathlons first then in the surrounding states after. Will definitely push BT.com as the place to network etc.

How's it going EH?

Born and raised in North Dakota; Bismarck and then to Washburn at age 12 until graduating HS, Class of '84' RULED! Joined the military and then went to Jamestown College for a couple of years. Since then mostly lived in Texas, where I began doing sprints, and now in Bartlett, TN. I quit doing tri's about 10 years ago but after seeing my wife complete Ironman Florida this past November I'm getting back into them. I know it sounds crazy but I really do miss some aspects of ND.  REALLY don't miss the cold weather and the constant wind. Inspire or email me if your ever in the Memphis, TN area. Anyone know if Bismarck is having their triathlon this year at the marina north of Bismarck near double-ditch? We would like to do it since it would give us a reason to come and visit family also.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

That website didn't get finished I think and its in pig latin (common default language when setting up a website)

I moved to Killdeer North Dakota about a year ago and can't seem to get into a routine for training.......so, unfortunatley, I haven't really excercised for over a year (and gained 15lbs).  I did a 1/2 ironman about 1.5 yrs ago and am really missing having a group of TRI friends.  Doesn't seem to be a very big thing here.

So, this month I'm going to start swimming again at the Dickinson Community Center. THen hopefully, when it warms up a bit, I'll start running/biking.

How do you guys train in our weather conditions? do you do everything inside? I can't imagine trying to run 10 miles on a treadmill or bike 30 miles on an indoor bike.

Any tri-trainers or master swimmers in Western ND?

Used to swim at West River a lot. Good pool with lots of time open for lap swimming and only 2 dollars per session.

Super good biking and running close to Killdeer. HWY 22 from the Gap road past Mandaree is some of the best road biking in the state. Good short run up to the radio towers past the the Medicene Hole trail just north of Killdeer.

West River has a sprint tri in July.

Probably won't get out to Dunn County much unless the price of oil jumps up past 50 dollars a barrel.

Thanks, pollywog!

Sounds like you know the area.  Any hints on trying to find local fellow triathletes?Did you find that there may be a group of swimmers at West River that might want to train together?

How do you train in the winter months in our extreme conditions? All indoor?

I'm sure by this summer price of oil will be back to 70-100.  Weird thing to hope for!

No, I don't know of anybody that trains for Tris at West River.

Kevin K from the Park board might know. He started the Sprint Tri.

I know the area fairly well for not being a local.
I train mostly outdoors even in the winter.

Thanks for the info.

At what temperature would you *not* run? Anything below -10? -20? -30? I accidently tried running one day and my lung felt like they were burning after about 500m.  I then checked the thermometer and it was -20F.

How the heck do bike in the wind? Certain condition that is too windy? Say blowing 20-30mph?

This morning it was actually 32F and finally got out to go run.  Unfortunately, just 2 miles......I hate starting over!It wasn't just 1.5 yrs ago I could tear off 10 miles with no problem!

I'll run outside as long as it's above 0F. The first few runs out in the cold always seem to hurt the lungs. Running slower so you don't have to breathe as deep helps.

If the wind is blowing 20-30mph and is going to be a crosswind. I try and ride my MTB.

I will ride the road bike in that strong a wind if there is a wide shoulder or the Loop road just south of New Town where there is no traffic.

It will probably take some getting used to riding in the strong winds. I've been moved over as much as a foot by strong gusts. This obvouisly isn't good if there is lots of truck traffic.

I'm in Jamestown and training for Olympic distance.  I train pretty much 7 days a week.  Interested in a Tri group if one forms.

I am putting together a race in Jamestown to be held July 25th at Pipestem Dam and Lake project.  It's a little different than your average tri.  One mile swim (Parkhurst to North Shore), one lap on Pipestem MTB trail (8 miles), and 5k trail run on North Ridge Trail.  It's called the Tough Guy Tri.  There will be a Solo swim category and a Relay paddle category (rather than swimming, use a canoe/kayak) for family types that aren't real competitive.  If you have ever done the Gear Grinder race, the bike portion of this race will be on the same course.  There will also be 3 mile and 8 mile trails run that weekend along with the tri.  Proceeds from the races will go to a mission in Guatamala and the Anne Carlson School.  If you are interested drop me a line.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I could distribute the the flyers in Bismarck and Mandan for you.

Many of the serious tri people in Bismarck are going to Chicaso Lakes half in Minnesota that weekend.

I would also check with the West River Community Center in Dickinson to see when their triathlon is this year. I think it was around July 25th last year.

I hear you Pollywog.  But if I try to avoid weekends with other events I won't have an event.  We've coordinated everything for that weekend already unfortunately.  Perhaps we'll go one week either way next year.
