Total Time = 58m 24s
Overall Rank = 31/374
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/46
Pre-race routine:

Don't get much sleep, stay out late the night before, generally undertrain
Event warmup:

some light stretching and a walk to the start line
Swim
  • 03m 2s
  • 150 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

REVERSE TRIATHLON!! Swim was really hot and really short. It was a bit silly, but a nice start to the season. Fun to be able to push hard on the swim because it was last. Passed several people on each leg of the swim. Got passed by a super fit woman at the final 25m. She was moving!
What would you do differently?:

As usual, train more, eat better.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Run-Bike transition.... forgot helmet liner, but didn't need it. Almost forgot my helment; good thing I put it between my aerobars! Was a bit scattered changing, but did well to keep moving.
What would you do differently?:

Focus more
Bike
  • 29m 30s
  • 9.9 miles
  • 20.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on lap 1, made up lots of time. Things got crowded in lap 2 and really crowded in lap 3. Probably could have pushed a little harder, but did pretty well considering my recent training.
What would you do differently?:

push harder on final lap
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Bike-swim transition; includes running to pool (+/- 150 m). Forgot to grab my goggles; had to run back for them as I was leaving racks. Weird feeling to strip down to tri shorts and run to the pool.
What would you do differently?:

put goggles in a more obvious place
Run
  • 23m 15s
  • 3.35 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt horrible at 1/2 mile, but maintained focus on form. Started feeling OK around 1 mile and pushed hard to pass several people during mile 2. Led a small group into transition area pushing pretty hard. Ran much harder than usual, knowing I could rest a bit on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

train more, eat better
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

train more, eat better

Event comments:

First time race.... Was well organized and well planned. Started about 20 minutes late due to road closures. Good atmosphere. Good competitors, easy course. Perfect early season race.

Saw you folks lined up for the start as I was finishing my run that morning. Fun course to test yourself early in the season. Congratulations on a super finish.

Great job finishing under an hour!

I play golf on Saturday and that is why I didn't do it.

Cheers,
Mark
