Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red...
Subject: flexibility in mary training question?
I'm kicking around the idea of trying for a fall marathon (for no reason other than when I run I'm happy and have excessive time for thinking)...

Anyway, I have the # of hours available for training (just to finish), but my free time this summer/fall doesn't always fall on Saturday/Sunday (or on any given day for that matter).

Can I train, doing my long runs on Friday one week, Saturday the next week, Wednesday the week after that, etc? Or am I just going to hurt myself? What is the minimum time I'll need between long runs - the plan I'm looking at does long runs weekly until 15 or 16 miles and then bi-weekly I think.

Maybe I should stop thinking while I run.

Thanks!
Kristen

Sure - there is nothing special about Saturday and Sunday. I trained for a marathon working rotating shifts of 3 on/3 off. I ran long runs on the 3 off with at least 4 days between the long runs.

yep just make suire you get your long runs in and make sure you give yourself enough time inbetween. in other words do not try to long runs back to back try to give alteast 4 days apart if you can.

Also make sure you stretch.

Yes.  Minimum time between long runs will vary from person to person, but 3 days or more should be fine.
