The wife gave me the green light for a new bike with roughly a $1500-1700 budget. Woo-Hoo!
I've been riding my mountain bike, which I love, but I want to be a lean, mean, biking machine!

I'm considering buying a Felt F60.

I'm also looking at the Specialized Allez.

I'm leaning towards the Felt. Its is around $1050. By the time I buy some other accessories (pedals, shoes, etc) I will be up around my budget. Of course I may convince myself that I need to spend more, but at this point I could be convinced of anything...

Any advice??

Dan

Get a bike that fits properly. Go to a shop with a good reputation and knowledgeble staff. Go to a shop where they know about triathlon. Big tall guys tend to get a better position on a racing bike modified for triathlon. A triathlon specific bike is more aero for normal sized people. Go for comfort and power over aero dynamics. Bring sombody with experience to look at your position on the bike before you buy it if you can.

The most important thing is fit. As has you have already been advised, go to a reputable bike shop and get fitted for a bike.

Also, if you are looking for a tri bike, The Felts B2, S22, S32, or S33 would be better suited to that purpose than the F60. Specialized does not seem to offer a tri specific bike: the Allez Pro and Allez Comp would seem to be the frames which could be best adapted for triathlons.

Be careful, your spouse may hit you up for something next, and how will you ever be able to say no?

Her 40th bday was last June. She got the jeep she wanted.

For my pending 40th, I thought it was reasonable to get a bicycle !

Dan, I have the the Felt F75 and I love it. Of course, it's my first road bike and maybe I just don't know any better :-) I got it because of the deal I found and it fit me. I have seen a lot of recommendations about getting a tri bike or road bike. My local shop has a Felt s-22 including aeor bars and bar end shifters for $1200. Of course, these bikes don't come with pedals, so be sure to add in that expense. Good luck in your search. Do some research to see if you want to get a tri bike or road bike.

Thanks Cameron,

I think I'm definately going to buy a roadbike with an aero bar. And thanks for the info on your bike. I am very likely to buy the Felt bike at this point.
