Pre-race routine:

Went and swam for an hour at the Y and then drove to the race start.
Event warmup:

Stayed inside and did some light stretching. I had just swam so I felt reasonably loose. It was windy outside though and in the low 20's so no outside warm up. I am a wuss.

Comments:

I suck at prediction runs. The cold hard truth. Actually, if I had kept with my original guess of 30:00 I would have been in fifth place. I added one minute and guessed 31:00 because the roads were horribly snowy at the start. Heck it snowed about 5 inches overnight and the side streets had barely been plowed. Two things messed me up. One was there was a mile stretch of clear road that went slightly downhill in the middle of the run. I'm sure I was moving pretty good at that point. Second was that there was a police car acting as the sweep behind the last runner. That would be me! So the whole way I had a police car riding my ass. There is no doubt that I ran a little faster because of this. Actually there were a few people behind me but they were either walking or walk/jogging so I was the last official runner. There were only 11 people running and 3 people walking so it wasn't that bad.
What would you do differently?:

Stay with my original guess!
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a yummy iced St. Patty's Day sugar cookie. Ate a yummy No-Bake cookie. Ate a yummy M&M cookie. Oh and drank some water. They gave awards through 10th place (there was only 14 people entered). I got a little trophy for 9th place.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Police car chasing me. Actually this limited my ability to run slower and match my prediction.

Event comments:

I really LOVE these small local races! You get to see the same people all the time and it's just kind of down home and friendly.

What a fun race (and report!)  Can't imagine: #1 being in a race with only 14 people, and #2 having a police car tail me the whole way!   Glad you had fun AND even came home with hardware!  WOOHOO!

Seriously, great job getting out there in the nasty weather.  You ROCK!

How fun!  And only 14 people?  That's a nice party!

So did running away from the police car just stir up old memories from HS/College?  hehe

Glad you had fun in the SNOW!!!

With you and Susan participating in these nice little races, I'm getting a bit interested in trying them myself.  I'm not much of a runner, but it might be a good goal for next year.  Not only doing a few tris but some 5K or 8K races might spice up the workouts and keep me motivated.

I can't imagine being chased by a police car!  Really good going though.  You are still the woooman!

Sorry to hear about the police car tailing you....maybe they liked the view!  Course that would be if it was 70 and sunny not 32 and windy.

Sorry to hear you felt pushed, but you did a great job running!
