St. Louis, Missouri
United States
Metropolitan St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee
30F / -1C
Total Time = 34m 45s
Overall Rank = 247/1300
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 55/234
Pre-race routine:

had my normal bowl of oatmeal, and grabbed a shot of Hammer Gel too, just before the race.
Event warmup:

ran back to the car to drop off t-shirts, then jogged back to starting line.
  • 34m 45s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 57s  min/mile

started WAY TOO far back in the pack. it took me a while to just cross the start line, which added about a minute to my time, so i've compensated for that here, based on my garmin.
the entire first 2 miles were packed with people much slower than me, so it definitely cost me some time picking my way through the crowd. still, each mile was about 7min.
What would you do differently?:

i can't say i would train more because i wouldn't. my knee won't let me. ITB rears it's ugly head on every single run, so i only run once a week or so.
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed a beer and stretched, then jogged a mile to cool down, and added some more stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my HR and lung capacity. i was maxed out the whole tim. i didn't know i had that in me. it was 175-182 for the last 3 miles.

Event comments:

i wish they would have some more music on the course, and some food at the end. i didn't have any cash on me, so there was no way for me to buy a $6.50 hotdog. :)

"I'll add details later."

What's THAT about?

I'm curious as to how your knee felt...big difference in speed on training runs vs. this one. BUT, I'm not surprised! Great job! Hope your knee was cooperating.

Were you able to start at the front of the pack?  I started mid-pack, and the first mile was trying to get past everyone.  There were even walkers in front of me!  I'm not sure what my official time is...I had to wait in the finisher's chute for about 5 minutes waiting for my bib info to be taken.
