Ironhead Race Productions
Total Time = 1h 19m 18s
Overall Rank = 83/188
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

Got 3.5 hours of sleep. Almost fell asleep at ten, then woke back up and couldn't fall asleep again until 1:30.

Got up at 5 and ate two bowls of honey bunches of oats. I think this was too soon, as I didn't seem to have the energy I should have had.
Event warmup:

Ran 2/3 mile and drank some accelerade.
Run
  • 23m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I really need to start these races slower, but when I go the speed I need to it seems really slow. I'll learn someday. Apparently guys my age are all runners bc I think I am having decent times in the run and only ok times on the bike, but I was last in my age group in both runs and made up for it on the bike. Oh well. I'll need to start running more.
What would you do differently?:

Better pacing. Use different sunglasses lenses.
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Tried to hop on saddle and ended up on my top tube. It didn't take long to get on the saddle and pedaling though.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to mount my bike better. Maybe try starting with the shoes already clipped in.
Bike
  • 41m 2s
  • 12.86 miles
  • 18.80 mile/hr
Comments:

My chain fell off again very near the end which cost a good minute. I didn't know the course and it seemed like I was going over the same spots several times (yes I know there were 3 loops). I didn't drink enough though bc the roads were kind of rough and this makes it hard to drink from the aerobottle since I have to look down. There was a guy I tried to pass that would speed up as soon as I would get close. Trying to avoid apenalty, I backed off since I wasn't going to pass in the 15 seconds, but when I backed off, he slowed down too so I was still too close and had to really slow down. I finally passed him through a corner and never saw him again. People like that bug me.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to shift without the chain falling off. Drink more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

I remembered to take my feet out this time.
Run
  • 13m 9s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

At the turn around, there was a mixup with me grabbing a cup from a kid, and so I turned around like 2 feet in front of the cone to get a cup from someone else. Shame on me. Towards the end, I kept checking everyone's age to make sure no one in my AG was passing me and never saw anyone (Seeing as how there were only 4 in my AG). At the end when I went through the tunnel, I was all alone and considered walking, but instead I ran the whole thing through the timing mat. My calves were sore the whole time and so was my right inner thigh. Something is either wrong with my legs or my seat is not on straight.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. Drink more on the bike. Go around the cone.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of run training. This crappy week.

Event comments:

The bike racks actually made the bikes hang. This makes me very happy.

The Michael Young bobblehead trophy was nice too.

This is the last year we are in the same AG for a while, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens in a few years.
