Total Time = 1h 51m 23s
Overall Rank = 35/85
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 10/16
Pre-race routine:

Steph volunteered so we had to be on-site at 8.00am (the gun was at 10.00). I had oatmeal, 1/2 cup of coffee and Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Ran .25m, had a Gu, visualized my transitions.
Run
  • 23m 33s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 43s  min/km
Comments:

The start was unbelievably fast. I mean these people started out waaay too fast. At one point I was running a 6.40 pace. I kept saying to myself, "Run your own race.". I was right and passed several after the turnaround.
What would you do differently?:

I can't think of anything. The time was 00:40 off my PR for a 5k.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I'm not sure where the time goes. I think I just run through a check list in my head instead of just grabbing my helmet, bike and rolling on.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice transitions.
Bike
  • 59m 23s
  • 30 kms
  • 30.31 km/hr
Comments:

I had some stomach discomfort around mile 10 and I'm not sure why. It continued through the bike and then after the race. It was just upset.

It seems my calf cramps are back. (Man, I feel whiny). I increased my nutrition from every 10 to every 5 minutes and popped a Gu. I think it kept them in check. They were painful but managable.

Overall, the bike was just tough.
What would you do differently?:

I may have peed out all my electrolytes (given I peed 4 times prior to the race). I need to take my pills closer to the start and remember to sip my drink during the morning.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

A running dismount off the bike with leg cramps worried me so I came to a complete stop and ran through.

I took my time, had a drink, stretched my calves and went off on my way.
Run
  • 26m 32s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 19s  min/km
Comments:

The grade was a bit more noticable this go-around.
Post race
Warm down:

I had a water and part of a banana then my stomach started getting upset again (what is that all about?!?!) so I rested in the shade a bit then tried to keep my legs moving.

I reluctantly skipped the beer tent.

Event comments:

The event was well organized. Tri-Okc (local club) really does a good job of putting on events.

Course: The bike was an out and back with minimal turns. There was a small strech on loose gravel close to the mount/dismount line. I felt my back wheel wash out a little but thought, "I can't crash in front of all these people!". Let me tell you about wind! It was a-blowin'. One guy mentioned her heard the forecast was for 20+mph. I'm not sure we felt that but it was easily 13-18mph. The course was all rual and wheat fields do not provide a wind break.

Did you manually figure out your overall for the splits, or is it posted somewhere? I've seen other races where that info is handy, but I didn't see it on the DG results site.

I'm curious, even though my wife has banned me from doing anything else involving calculators, Excel, and results...

The times were posted with each split.  Quite handy!
