Pre-race routine:

Woke up, had a light breakfast of oatmeal and a banana, and some water on the way to the Metro. We wore lots of layers as it was very cold and windy. Felt good to go to a race for the new season.....
Event warmup:

Walked around, tried to stay warm and stay in the sun as much as possible. Stretched and lined up as best we could under the time marker signs.
Run
  • 1h 12m 48s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 14m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

This was my first real race of the season and my training has been lacking to nonexistent. I was sick last week and did next to nothing so I did not feel prepared for the race. That being said, it was good to get back on the wagon and complete the race even without as much training as I would have liked....I feel like it may motivate me more to working on my running which is the hardest discipline for me.

Also, it is the longest running race I have ever run....so it felt good to be able to easily complete it...albeit pretty slowly!
What would you do differently?:

Train and steadily prepare leading up to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and then realized we would get cold quickly standing in the wind....went home, took a hot shower and relaxed with a warm cup of coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of preparation and training.

Event comments:

The race was well organized and a nice course. I will definitely want to do this race next year to improve my time. I think that another water station is needed. Since it was so cold, I didn't need as much water as I usually do......but on warmer days it is probably necessary.

Nice job and congrats on your furthest distance race! Also, way to get out there in the cold this morning; it was really cold and windy!

Congratulations!
