I have a couple of running events that are on my April calendar, but I still want to get some time on the bike. So, I'm going with the "aim high, shoot low" strategy here: Put me down for the original challenge, 700 on the bike. If I reach 500 I'll be ecstatic, but I'm going to make an effort for the 700 - 23 daily miles, yikes!

Hey everyone,

Last year the Bear founded the exclusive 700 mile club which required riding 700 miles during a 30 day period which some of us did a couple of times. (He is currently sponsoring the March 500 mile club on the challenge forum) If I remember correctly other BTers suggested and completed other distances since some might be training for shorter distances or just new to the sport. For that reason this time I am suggesting to have a few different options so more BTers can participate and each shoot for a specific level of membership based on their current goals.

Also since the racing season is upon us and in order to have a more balanced spread for our training I am also proposing the Ultimate 822.7 Mile club which will consist of riding 700 Mi, running 100 Mi and swimming 22.7 Mi (40,000 yds) all on 30 days.
Spring is finally here and I think it is time to officially open up the application process for either the one, only and original 700 Mile club 2007 or the new Ultimate 822.7 mile club and seek to complete the necessary requirements through the month of April to become an official member!

These are the different membership levels that any of you can apply for April:
Original 700 Mile club:
·          Elite – 700 Miles
·          Master – 500 Miles
·          Expert – 400 Miles

Ultimate 822.7 Mile Club:
·          Elite – 700 Mi bike, 100 Mi run, 22.7 Mi swim (40,000 yds)
·          Master – 500 Mi bike, 75 Mi run. 17 Mi swim (30, 000 yds)
·          Expert – 400 Mi bike, 50 Mi run, 11.3 Mi swim (20,000 yds)

Each week we’ll revise the progress of each of the applicants to keep an accurate track in order to evaluate at the end of the term who meet the requirements and qualify for their membership.  What else will you receive besides becoming an honorable member of this exclusive club, well, nothing really but most likely your improvement will make you faster during the summer

Anyway, we still have 9 days before April 1st, but I want to know who might want to come out and play so I can work on the details and later on post it on the appropriate forum… I know Bear is IN (right?) who else???

What does the 1k a month make you? I am closing in and need some extra mojo since we had a snowstorm last night. Currently sitting at 850+ for March. ;-) Running is 132, swimming is a shade under 40k.

And I thought I already was! I didn't do it yet. 150 miles on a trainer doesn't sound too appealing in the next 48 hours. ugh.

As far as swimming the 40K, what's the point?

Maybe your swimming wouldn't suck as bad? (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

Gee, aren't you the master of the obvious. So what level of the challenge are you accepting, or are you just trolling the thread looking for sniping opportunities?

Cool

What I need more than mega-yardage is instruction in technique. Unfortuanately, local resources in that area are seriously lacking.

If you come out to Boulder or CO for your marathon here, if you haven't done it yet, I can give you some top notch instruction.

I'm going to hit 1,000 myself this month... 1,000 kilometers.

I love the metric system!

So, now that we're nearing the start of April, has anyone given any thought to how we're actually going to DO this?

I signed up just for the 700 miles on the bike. On a straight average, that's 23 miles every single day (April is a short month). I already have at least 4 days where I won't be able to ride. Those days are all centered around events, one of which is a half mary, so it may be more than 4 depending on my recovery.

So, it looks like I'll have to do about 2 hours of riding each morning to get my miles in, aiming for 30 miles in that time. Not the quickest pace, but with this many miles, I have to pace myself.

Anyone else have thoughts on how they're going to do this?

Basically like that: I have a daily ride of 28 miles, then ride 60-70 on Saturday and 40 or so on Sunday to build the cushion to offset the days I have to miss. I have three races but don't plan to taper for any of them, it's just making up the mileage you miss by racing. Also have at least four days of other commitments...

That will give you instant ROCK STAR membership status and for me something to shoot for June in preps for Timberman!

Addendum:
·          Ultimate Rock Star Ricci – 1000 Mi bike, 120 Mi run, 50,000 yds swim (we will make an exception for you about the swim yardage unless you can bang 10,000 yds in 3 days )

·          Original Rock Star Bear – 1000 Mi bike

haa! haa! Just call it Rock Star Status! Remember, just follow your plan, that's what I am doing. I am actually cutting back this week b/c I am tired.

I say it should be:
1k on the bike, 150 run, 50k swim - I 'should' hit it this month. 10k swimming in 3 days shouldn't be a problem in the pool. I haven't swum this week yet - been having some 'pool' issues here as in, I got to pool, and the lifegaurd doesn't show up, then I show up the next day and all the lanes are full. So, I still have to get my three swims in this week anyway. ;-) The biking is going to be the issue unless the weather clears up, which isn't in the forecast. :-(
