I wanted to make a family vacation to North Carolina (Just never been there and have heard it is a beautiful state.) and thought I could fit in a sprint Tri in over the weekend. Does anyone in NC have a recommendation? Only requirements are sprint, summer time and preferably near/close to fishing areas.

Thanks
Michelle

Check setupevents.com. What kind of fishing are you looking for?

Thanks! I will take a look at the website. My husband was looking for surf fishing I think. He now says somewhere near Cape Hatteras/outerbanks area. But we are flexible.

The closest thing to Hatteras would be the Sandman up in Virginia beach, which would be at least 2 and a half hours away only 2 hrs from KDH but it is also in September, but there is great fishing here that time of year. Then there is another race I think in october in emerals isle which is at the beach but farther south than hatteras. May 19 there is one in surf city also. There is one in Hampton on June 3 at breezy Pt. Others are the setup events. Hope this helps.

The two beach tris in the NC Series (setupevents.com) are fun...Surf City and Kure Beach, they change the format a bit.

I recall seeing ads for a sprint at the Cherry Point Marine base (down near Morehead, NC). I think this is it....

The event in question is small and not run by setup events. Outside of that I can not offer much help... I will ask my wife about (as she was considering it....)

This is near the Cape Lookout lighthouse and seashore. Some great fishing in the area... (see photo to the left for an example)...

The really good fishing is found in the western part of the state.   The Swiss Pine triathlon is a sprint and has a nice ride up the blue ridge parkway.

I did it a couple of years ago and then went fishing on the S. Toe river after the race.  Nice way to spend a day.

Haha - I see a challenge for Tommy and I - Saltwater(east) vs Freshwater(west) fishing! I think a fising/tri challenge is in order!

Thank you very much for all your replies and suggestions. I am a little nervous about the ocean swims since I have yet to do an open water tri, so the smaller events look very interesting. As for saltwater vs freshwater, my husband gave me a funny look when I suggested freshwater.

Again, thanks!
