Comments:

Wow, where do I start? This was my first Cycling event. I actually did 64.37 miles, a bit over a Metric Century. We let a bunch of folks go out first. So Me, the G8Rs, Sue and Jen took off together. I was surprised I could actually ride in a group- a crowded group at that. It was new for me to go around people. So for a while we were in some sort of peloton and at one point we were in a great BT paceline! I wish I could of managed my camera, I did try, but didn't want to drop it so gave up. It was something to see, especially because I was in the back of it. I tried to stay with people as much as I could because I didn't know where I was going. AT one point some folks were turnin off, some were going straight. It was like a block you can go around and come back, that is probably the "Secret SAG stop" because like half of us missed it. So we hit the next SAG stop later, I was okay at that point. Used the blue box, ate some strawberries, very diluted gatorade, and a banana. Saw a guy from my church/kids in same school there. After about 15 mins of this we hit the road again, and they all dropped Mike and me.
The course was really pretty in some spots- strawberry fields and cows, a milk factory. Ahhh.. I love the fresh smell of warm cow shit in the morning! A group of farmworkers had gathered on the side of the road to gawk and wave at us.
:( All of a sudden, I"m in front of Durant HS- hey! how did we get south of 60?? So, cool, at one point, we were like a mile from my house! whoo! A bit of an uphill into the wind to get to the cross at 60... and from there on out it was just me, I couldn't keep up with a paceline anymore for long.. I was getting tired. The wind was mean. WE passed by Sue's hood. At about mile 55ish I started feeling woozy, so I reached for my gel, I couldn't get the damn thing out. Sucked the hell out of it, felt a bit better but not much. I was out of ultra diluted gatorade, just a bit of water left. during the last part up on 39, about 5 miles, I got a good pull off a couple of guys so that was good. There were actual BIKE LANES on this road! Finally there's the parking lot, I went to my car, got off my bike, teetered to the side a bit, whoa.... ate the last Uncrustable I had, rested a bit, and decided to just go home.
What would you do differently?:

Plan better for nutrition/liquids.
Remember to slash on the Butt Butt'r. Because tampon strings tend to irritate the fun girly parts after a while.
Go faster?
Post race
Warm down:

ice bath. By habit, I turned on the hot water and wondered why the ice was melting.... oops. But it was cold enough!! Even then!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

woozy feeling.

Event comments:

Maybe next year I'll do the 100.

little sidenote- one reason I wanted to stay within sight of the group ahead was so I knew where to go. I didn't realize that they had painted little arrows on the side of the road- sheesh!! I figured that out at about mile 30!! Up til then I was just following people!

Great Job Christine   I hope you had a good time.  Last year it took me half the ride to figure out the arrows were painted on the ground.

Congrats on finishing the long ride ... and it seems like it was a good training experience in the importance of nutrition + hydration.

I learned that lesson the hard way around the same mile mark on my first ride. I just plain ran out of gas and blew up - making the last 7 or 8 miles a true sufferfest.

Add the wind that you had to endure to that equation and the last miles must have seemed forever.  Way to perservere!

Nice work!  Feels good to accomplish a long ride!  The wind WAS nasty.  I was over it by mile 85 or so.  Glad you enjoyed yourself though, and next year you'll be ready for the 100 with us!!!  Great job!!
