Subject: Estimate Spinning Distance

I am new to spinning, but is there a way to estimate mileage via cadence and time? Just looking for an approximate number so I can guage where I am at and where I need to be. I realize that the spinner is not the road...

Thanks

I usually estimate my spin classes at around 15 miles per hour.

If I do a 50 minute spin class and I have been averaging 18mph on my bike outside. Then I calculate my distance as (50min/60)*18= 15 miles

I go with 15 mph. That's pretty conservative, so I feel like I'm getting a pretty accurate read on cycling distance without "padding" my numbers.

I use the HR monitor on my spin bike as I do while riding on tri bike. If you can remember your mph on your bike at certain Heart rates you can use this in your calculations. Usually I just use my Avg HR after a spin workout and I come up with a magic number of what my mph would be at that HR if I were riding outside. Not 100% accurate, but after an intense spin you know you would not have been only going 15mph on your tri bike if you were panting and sweating bullets. This is what I do because I own a spin bike and it works for me. I hope this helps.

I log it as "Spinning Class" under sports and enter the amount of time I was in class. Since I'm not really on the bike.

Why log it under bicycling? You can not compare the two.
Log it under sports as spinning...

Simplicity, and since I'm riding my bike on a trainer it's close enough for me. My training plans for cycling are usually based on time, anyway,

there is no real way to tell, but i like the hr idea if you really want to estimate it.

i always post spin classes and trainer workouts as 14mph. i know it's faster than that, but that's my penalty for wussing out and riding inside.

I like to log my spinning time along with miles because if you don't it can cause a big difference in monthy and yearly totals. I don't want to see so many hours and barely no miles next to it. I also don't want to see more hours under the sports category than under bicycling when my training has been cycling and not playing sports. At the end of the year I would like my logs to look like I was Triathlon training and not trying out for the NBA or trying to make it as a professional weekend softball player.
