Is anyone running a 56 tooth chain ring? What kind of cadence are you able to keep? Are you training with it, or just using it in time trials? Thanks.

I have a 56 on one of my bikes and do about 85 rpm on it. But then I do 85 on every bike.... I am a Jan Ullrich gear-crushing kind of guy as opposed to an Amstrong 95 rpm rider. I once rode across the US with 50 other riders who gave me the award for riding across the US in the fewest strokes.

I used the 56 once I got out of the Rockies and into Eastern Colorado during RAAM in 2003. I have known guys who have raced with 60 tooth chainwheels, but only in the interior of the US.

I would use the 56 in a Tri if and only if I know there are no quick 12%+ grades on the course.

Sounds good. I like to keep around 80, and most of my races are on basically flat courses. Did you run a 56/44 with a 11/23 on the rear?
