Comments:

My chip did not work as I found out at the end of the race. Fortunately I started my stopwatch. First time in a open water swim... not very fun. Got kicked twice once in the shin that was hard enough to bruise and bleed. Didn't notice until I got onto my bike. Total time 1:41:35
What would you do differently?:

Start in more open water... I know that it was more open to the left but I couldn't get there.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Set up was nice... I was able to get out, shirt on, shoes on(quick lace), helmet on and go.
What would you do differently?:

Spend the money and get clip on shoes and pedals
Bike
  • 1h 00m
  • 18 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Borrowed my brother's Gary Fisher mountain bike... enough said. Not enough speed on the downhills to match the road bikes. Not enough gear to gain on anyone on the flats. More than enough gear on the hills though.
What would you do differently?:

Road bike, Road Bike, and uh... Road Bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Needed to hydrate more on the bike... Something to eat would have been good too.
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Began run flat footed. I know from the pictures... My toes are not pointing up and out. Legs hurt for first .25mi, then I caught my stride. Sprinted to the finish. Just sad I didn't have the real times.
What would you do differently?:

BRICK more... Did I actually just write that.
Post race
Warm down:

De-hydrated. Drank and walked, and drank somemore, and walked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mountain bike, bad hydration and fueling.

Event comments:

Will do this again... I enjoyed my first triathlon experience. I even beat the individual team. So I know I am at least starting on a good foot.

Congrats on your first race!  Road bikes really do help.  Sorry to hear about getting kicked but you have got to love tri's for that reason.  Keep up the great work and good luck in future races!
